That's the issue with having people with the same name. I also thought it was the VA.

he was followed by a taxi driver who told him to go back and that’s the only reason he did. I bet it’s going to be a out of court settlement and victims will drop the charges.

Maybe, maybe not. From what I've seen over the years, Japan is pretty harsh on its celebrities when they screw up, especially when the police are involved.

Thank god he just endangered lives of several people and then escaped. If he did a serious crime like smoking some weed he could really be in trouble now.

Don't know about that. Accidents with injuries are pretty serious business in Japan, especially if pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorcycles are involved. On top of that, it was a hit and run. Double whammy.
If it is settled out of court, it will probably be a big payout, cause of the 'hit an run'.

Plus, out of court settlements are a rare thing in Japan, unlike they are in the US.

He was also a panelist on Terrace House.
I'm glad they got him.

Look people i know you are scarred when something like that happens. But you make it far worse when you do that and then run. Do not do what he did. It's far better to admit your wrong doings and take the blame right there and then. Geez.

Japan pushes for an arrest or guilty verdict regardless of whether you're innocent or not in order to save face. Ridiculous, I know. Even if this guy was innocent, as long as it made the news, the Japan courts aren't going to relent into making sure he pays somewhat for this.

But the person who did it was not innocent. He even admitted that he did it.You are complaining about something that is irrevelent to this case.

Unless it involves child porn. Then it's just a small fine and a slap on the wrist.

To be fair, the news surrounding this issue was spun in an odd manner that didn't reflect what the case was actually about. There are heat regulations for serving hot products (shocking? I didn't know either), and apparently, the coffee sold to the woman was so hot that it burned through the skin on her legs (3rd degree burns, yikes).
She offered to settle for a sum enough to pay for her lawyer and her medical bills, but McDonald refused the offer, probably hoping that taking this to court would deter the lady. We all know what happened afterwards.

I see that you're not familiar with the Japanese legal system. Forced confessions are also a thing there. They can keep you in jail for up to 23 (or 27, I can't remember?) for questioning until they're satisfied with your response. Confessions are regarded more highly than evidence there.
High profile cases are especially suspect because there's this thing where they want to make an example out of you and they don't want to appear that they've nabbed the wrong person after all the attention the case would've gotten.
You can believe what you want, as I'm also not privy to the complete information of this case, but at least keep this in mind. A 99% conviction rate is ridiculous by any standard.
