I'm glad to see this! Love seeing other countries around the world weigh in on this problematic issue in America. Good to see they are people who actually have empathy towards those that need it. Love it!!!

This is nice and all but Japan isn't much better than the US when it comes to racism.

That's why there was a protest against racism and police brutality in Shibuya last week. |

No one said otherwise, so your comment is unnecessary. |

Japan is more about foreigners in general than any specific race. I remember quite a few 'no foreigners allowed' signs last time I was in Japan. Also, of course Lotus Juice does not speak for Japan as a whole. He's a unique individual who did grow up in America which no doubt influences his world view on this subject. I don't think it's hypocritical at all. |

Not to mention that he and other artists mentioned Japan's own problems with racism in their tweets. |

I didn't realize Americans were unaware of how much these protest are supported elsewhere. I live in Sweden and I've never heard ANYONE side with the cops in these situations. |

I think it's because situations like these tend to not get reported on / oversimplified in international news. I know in some countries, any report about the protests mostly focuses on the looting and rioting. Edit: lol, I'm also really amused that Anime News Network cited Arama Japan as a source when they basically started out as the Japanese version of Oh No They Didn't on LiveJournal and still post meme-y tabloids about Maki Goto |

To clarify, there was video of a Kurdish man being tackled and roughed up by the Japanese police which led to people protesting in front of the Shibuya police station on how foreigners are mistreated by Japanese police. Although considering said protest only had about >200 people show up, a number of which foreigners themselves with signs in English, I wouldn't say it's very indicative of Japan's overall view on the issue. Most of Japan seemed apathetic towards the issue. |

Exactly! People around the world are now seeing the brutal killings of black people in America. And they are protesting because they know it's right thing to do. This world has little empathy for minorities. |

Are you sure? There may have been foreigners, but the majority were Japanese and a lot of Japanese people do speak English. Are you just looking at that one English tweet documenting the news who stated he consciously cherry-picked the ones with the English signs just because his intended audience doesn't know Japanese? Search the "0530渋谷署抗議" on Twitter and you'll see a lot of the protesters are not completely foreigners. I agree that it doesn't represent Japanese public opinion BUT to say that it was mostly an event attended and endorsed by foreigners is a total lie. |

The Ainu would probably disagree about the no specific race part and Japanese are far more racist to Africans than whites. Though yes the Japanese should be protesting their police who misreport cases to keep their statistics looking good or the whole holding someone indefinitely till they 'confess'. |
