Wth? I hope they find and arrest the person/people involved. I can't imagine the mindset going on there

rather execute than arrest. These sorts of threats have become way tenser since the KyoAni arson. Any time I hear reports of death threats or acts of violence I get so angry it's crazy. And when you hear these stories of violence against seiyuu in particular over history, you know it's because of some petty or insane otaku shit like getting engaged or something.

You know, it's funny, when we get this kind of news there's never any context and we all just assume it's some completely out-of-nowhere, crazy otaku stalker type. But when this kind of thing happens on English social media, every other week, it's invariably because some dumbass celebrity tweeted something deeply stupid, ruling up a bunch of other dumbasses hoping to ride the wave of stupid to popularity--or just find new targets for their incoherent raging.

That is absolutely horrible! Wishing her best of luck resolving this and anyone involved is chucked in jail and the key thrown away

I assume Japanese seiyuu celebrities are held to very high PR standards. So you don't see these alleged meanspirited tweets often unless you want your career and personal life butchered. Given the profile of this VA, it's not wrong to assume there's some serious psychopaths out there obsessed with her.
Japan *does* have a serious stalker crisis though. Gets pretty morbid when you decide to read on the idol industry.

Peoplea lmost always blame the freak who's doing it, but there's also the toxic celebrity culture over there, where something as getting married or finding a spouse is a cause for public apologies.

the "freaks" spawn from that culture, so it's pretty much the same boat. It's super creepy how you mention that apology for marriage is because those same freaks have this purity fetish. Super, super messed up. That Aya Hirano scandal is still on mind.

I know it's creepy, but it's a sad fact.

for an otherwise crappy (IMO) animanga, Bakuman had a very heartfelt segment on this very topic and marriage toward its ending. Was really sweet to come to mind.

I remember it well. Read the whole manga twice. It still sucks how famous people are treated just because their fans believe that "it's either everyone or no one". And let's not get into the whole workings of idol groups. Those are even worse.

It's that time of the year again. Oh dear god, and it's probably going to end up being the typical bullshit excuses I've heard for the past decade and a half+. At least it's not another case with idol involvement like last year, that was a spectacular mess, I mean gang members are safer than idols these days.

i dont really get this comparison if we mean Yakuza by gang member. A real gang member vs some crazy sweaty otaku even armed with a knife is going to end in death for the latter in every instance. So they're always safe from anyone but their own kind and the law. I can't imagine most idols or seiyuu to be trained in fighting back at all by comparison.

Japan has a pretty low rate of cases like that compared to western countries, actually

Even so, that still doesn't give anyone the right to stalk anyone else. I disagree with a lot of celebrity opinions, but I don't want to hurt them over their (incorrect) view.
