Saw this one happening for awhile now. The season wasn't even supposed to start airing until the 25th it was always the last show to start airing in spring and while I had hoped that could mean they had most of the production finished I guess that wasn't the case.

Re:Zero, Oregairu and now this. This sucks. And then I worry that any of the shows that aren't getting cancelled might run into some serious production issue during their run.

Yeah saw that coming It's sad but it's for the best. I also fear for the rest who haven't been delayed, they can't afford to delayed to much animes so we can expect even more production issues than usual.

I wonder how many of this season's shows will be able to keep airing new episodes all through June.

That is why I don't begrudge any shows delaying before the first episode. Production delays happen even under normal circumstances, and I'm sure some studios looked at their individual situation and decided it was a choice of delay now or delay later.
Personally, I think I would prefer to wait than have a show stop somewhere in the middle for who knows how long.

I didn't see it coming. SAO is one of the biggest money makers, and because of that I though Aniplex would do everything in their power to not delay. I know that human lives are way more important than cartoons, but this delay could be a huge economic setback for the anime industry.

This means that Toonami would have to get another anime (old one preferably) available and air it in place of SAO: Underworld Part 2.

They will have to do that anyway, although right now they're going for the block reduction option for the time being. Toonami's run of SAO: Alicization has been months after the initial premiers either started or finished the cours. So unless Aniplex arranged to do a simuldub for the next part to get it on Toonami faster, we probably won't see it until closer to the end of the year, maybe not until 2021 depending on what happens now with the production.

I'm honestly surprised we got anything at all this season.

Probably an indication of which studios care about their staff's and voice actors' well being.
