This is the result of a recent Japanese survey for "Things that make a male look like an otaku" and "Things that make a female look like an otaku." Heh, I think I want to make bingo cards out of these and go nerdspotting at the next major convention.

FWIW, I don't think I've worn an anime print T-shirt in public in the last 3 years, although I still use old AX T-shirts for my pajamas. |

I'm a girl, and numbers 4, 6, and 8 apply to me.
- As for number 4, Its not toatally plastered, but it has anime on it (ein from cowboy bebop) and 2 pins. -6 My hair is messy alot, even when I try to make it not messy, and if I braid my hair it looks worse. - Number 8. The front most part of my hair is pink. and after I did it I realized it looks just like rose from FMA, but I love my pink hair otherwise. |

Would seem not. Only one that applies to me is the anime t-shirts. The only reason that applies though is because of the E7 special editions. None of the others really apply to me.

Well the T-shirt thing is definitely true about me, and the long hair thing sort of applies to me (I cut my hair a few months ago, but now it's starting to grow back, although I wouldn't necessarily say it's "unnecessarily" long, but still usually typically long nonetheless. What can I say, I love long hair! ) and admittedly whenever it is I do wear a bandanna (not very much, mostly just when my hair is short enough to) I do so happen to wear it that way, but other than that, nothing else much is true about me.

The unnecessarily long hair certainly applies. Being the lazy person that I am, it gets cut about once a year. I can't remember my last visit to the barber, it's been so long. The intrusive hair is in my eyes, tickling my neck and ears. I'd say it was quite unnecessary.
I suppose the glasses feature applies too, when I'm not wearing contact lenses. For as long as I can remember, I've had to wear some form of artificial lens. The midwife probably held some specs over my mothers dilating... *shudders*... during the birthing, lying in wait for my needy eyeballs. Buying a t-shirt with an anime print is currently a top priority. and What is an anime print paper bag? |

Yay, I don't qualify at all! Maybe my glasses could qualify as "big and thick" but I don't think so. What can I say, I don't like walking around with logos and images all over me.

The categories that fit otaku describe me, although most of the ones that are anime otaku specific do not. I'd blend in abd wouldn't stand out as an anime fan at a comic book convention or heavy metal concert. I dislike bags and packs and prefer to keep things in my long Highlander coats. Most of my shirts are based of my favorite novels or are from European metal bands (wearing a Sonata Arctica long sleeve at the moment) and all my clothes are black.

None of the 30 in the article apply to me. My face gets unshaven occasionally but it's more out of laziness than anything. Most of what makes me seem otakuish is purely verbal and mannerism related though so I kinda slip through the cracks of a thing like this.

none of the 30 apply to me. I generally don't publicize my interests with clothing, not because I'm ashamed of them but because I don't feel the need too. I don't really stand out much in general, mostly because I'm quiet.

None of the lists apply to me. I don't really do those things, I only love watching anime and reading some manga. But in general I don't really look like an otaku, I guess I look normal and I've never wear bandana, anime printed shirt, bumbags etc.
The only thing I could say that count was my glasses, although the lens are not thick and I prefer not to use it, except in school when I need to take notes. And about school I often talk with my friends, but their not into anime (they prefer korean drama and stuff), so that's about it Last edited by chichiriNoDa on Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:55 pm; edited 3 times in total |

Female.
I have an anime T-shirt but I rarely use it, so it doesn't count. The only one that applies to me is 6 because I have too much hair, so I tend to braid it or wear it in a ponytail to keep it under control. |

Oooh. I look the part. Scary.
I have anime print t-shirts (though I hardly wear them); I have anime print paper bags (but I only use them when I have to transport stuff -- which isn't often); I have unnecessarily long hair; I often carry rucksacks/backpacks only over one shoulder; and I have a pair of acid-washed jeans. Ouch, five out of the top 10. Looking at the rest of the list, I have two straps on my mobile phone, a usually unshaven face, a messenger bag (lots of them), and off-white pants. Ouch again. I REALLY have the otaku look down. This is somewhat disturbing...
Well, it's exactly what it sounds like. They're used as packaging for anime goods acquired either from stores, or from a convention. It's what everyone in the Genshiken comes home carrying after the various convention episodes in that show, and most other otaku comedies have examples of the paper bags in some form or another. |

Female- I have one fruits basket shirt and that is it. At what point would you call a skirt "excessively long" though? I am guessing floor length or close to it, so I guess I have that one too.

Huh, I guess I don't look even slightly like an otaku.

None apply!
I'm one hell of an unremarkable looking person. No bags, glasses, anime print anything, or headwear - unless it's to keep warm I don't like wearing it - and my one earband is probably 10 years old right now......... |
