Every time I see that Anglicized title, I think it should have been "Do you even lift?" Such a waste of potential.

Right, because not kowtowing to American memes is considered wasted potential.
I'm keeping my eyes peeled for this anime.

It could have at least been grammatically correct: "How many" or "how heavy of". How much dumbells sounds, well, dumb.

I could see that being something that is changed if it gets localized. It wouldn't be the first time where a more literal translation of a title is avoided because it doesn't work as well in translation. Heck, Funimation used Grimgar: Of Fantasy and Ash for the simuldub and then Grimgar: Ashes and Illusions for the home video release, so titles can be adjusted.

The voice and music make it sound so epic.

Good translation with non-awkward English =/= kowtowing

From what I'm seeing, it looks like I'll be seeing a nice-looking anime complete with funny moments (scripted brilliantly by Fumihiko Shimo) and hot anime girls (though probably not as hot as the ones in Sports Girl, an online Korean web comic).

It's a gag manga about high school girls doing muscle training in a gym filled with macho men. "Do You Even Lift" would have fit it perfectly.

Just like Over 9000 fits Dragon Ball Z perfectly? Have a nice day, teferi.

Missing the point.

Meaning?
Sometimes, posts like these make me wonder what people legitimately want in anime. One moment, people want gimmicks because gimmicks sell, the next moment, they don't because it would ruin the show. Make up your minds.

I read the original title as a friendly exchange between the girls. "Do you even lift" adds an air of dismissive snobbery.

If it's a man asking that question, then the show would be named and defined by those men. Do they take a "girls don't belong here" stance like the males in last year's space fishing show (Between the Sky and Sea)? From descriptions I read, it sounded like the manga is mainly about the girls enjoying what they do, rather than aiming to prove anything to the boys.
