Personally, I’m delighted to see something so unashamedly positive and encouraging. I bet a lot of people in their teens could use something like this right now in these absolute shit times, without anyone telling them that everything should be ironic/sarcastic/grimdark.

Go ahead kids, be a dork. You’re good.

Also, the ethnic/gender diversity in the ad matches what I’ve seen at anime cons, so good call representing Crunchyroll’s fanbase accurately.

Agreed. It was... just embarrassing. And it's not even clear who it's aimed at, what it's advertising, or what the point is.

And I'm guessing the new corporate overlords are behind that silly catchphrase.

I swear things have been...weird since FuniRoll broke up. It's like they started out as those two people you never thought would get together. They were surprisingly good together but then broke up because their parents didn't approve.

Now Funi looks like they're living their best life with their new boo Hulu taking them all over the world and stuff while Crunchy is just...getting by.

It's aimed at making Crunchyroll a brand, I imagine. Same with them moving away from streaming anime into doing their own self-made western cartoons. Don't be a fan of "anime", be a fan of "Crunchyroll" - their community and brand name.

Dunno why people are so hard on it. It's super wholesome and happy.

Somehow "Stay Crunchy" makes even less sense than "Be Best"...

“It’s okay to be socially proactive and still enjoy cartoons” is what I got out of this. Their slogan is a little sappy, though Rolling Eyes

Now that Crunchyroll and Funimation are no longer on the same page, could we be seeing the otaku equivalent of the 1980s Cola Wars? Two similar products vying not so much for sales as for a certain cultural status amongst younger consumers?

I’m imagining the girl at the end existing in a flat universe and going “Ew, 2D? I’ll stick with my gorgeous 3D swimmer husbando thanks”

Since this Crunchyroll creating a video that reflects western otaku culture and anything thing else Japanese related, why couldn't they have subbed the black cat saying "nyan" rather than "meow"?

Also, wouldn't Crunchyroll be better off producing an original anime on their mascot Hime rather than "High Guardian Spice"?
