I think this is a big moment not just for Precure but for magical girl anime as a whole. While we've had parody shows like Cute High and shows that have magical boys in them like Shugo Chara and even Sailor Moon's Tuxedo Mask to an extent, we've never had a serious magical boy show before, not counting Saint Seiya and Ronin Warriors. So I hope this will lead to a new trend for both more openly LGBTQ+ characters in Precure and for more serious magical boy shows to be made.

Many people simply laugh at one of this show’s central themes: “boys can be princesses too”, yet few can deny how gorgeous and magnificent this moment is.

If you count "magical boy" in the loosest of definitions meaning "a boy who uses magic", then there are many anime and manga series that have that. |

Yet another boundary broken. Yet another reason why Hugtto! Precure is the best entry in the Pretty Cure franchise and the best magical girl series since Madoka Magica. Brought to you by Junichi Sato, the genius director who made the original Sailor Moon anime, Princess Tutu and Aria.

While I won't deny that SatoJun has a lot to do with it, from all I've read person that was pushing it was Fumi Tsubota, main scriptwriter of Hugtto. One of stories she said was knowing a boy who really liked Precure but was ashamed to speak up, because it's such a girly show - so this might help with situations like that. She did some interesting stuff in Kirakira but it seems that having Sato and Zako, might have helped in convincing producers to be more bold. And while Henri might not be first "magical boy" becoming Precure is big news (also given how big this franchise is). Between this and Zombieland, I would love for more series to do stuff like this. |

It's a bit ironic that Precure has done more to push the boundaries of positive LGBTQ+ rep in magical girl anime than Cardcaptor Sakura Clear Card did in spite of CLAMP's reputation.

It doesn't have to be super dark like Madoka but a show like Precure but with magical boys that isn't a parody like Cute High.

What CLAMP reputation? Killing or making miserable all lesbians they created? Saying pedophilia is okay? Their BL characters are mostly for the fetish. I mean, I don't see anything wrong in it as long as it's not offensive. But it's not like they were LGBT inclusive. Edit: Just to be clear, not trying to diss CLAMP or anything. But their LGBT characters were in the same logic they used to justify a teacher marrying an underaged student. It wasn't really meant to be progressive or anything. About Precure, it's nice. I just dislike how people are pretending this is the only Precure that tries to have an image like that when all series had something like it. Sure, no boys becoming Precure, although last season had a boy who wanna be a Precure, but it was always lots of progressive ideas. |

Dang it, I did it again. See? It's awkward. Guys are "supposed" to be like the "Extra Heroes" (NOT "Sixth Ranger(s)") in PreCure. |

I'm still mad about that. Cure Waffle was a cure already in everything but name. But he was denied the position because "there were too many cures already that season". Then they go and introduce friggin' Cure Pekorin at the last minute, albeit as a half-joke. And so Pikario shall now join spoiler[Michiru, Kaoru and Regina] at their tea parties. With Milky Rose occasionally dropping by. |

I doubt that adding a yuri subtext to a children's show for attracting the attention of yurifans (moreover, in its traditional form, when any romance is officially absent from the show due to the potential threat for shiping) can be called a "positive LGBT image." Not to mention that Sailor Moon did a lot more for feminism and qeer people than Sakura. When will people realize that fanservice is not a representation of anything?
