I wouldn't be surprised if it got downvoted by butthurt male KyoAni fans just like Free! back in the days...then again, it hasn't been all that interesting, yet. I'm more disappointed by the lack of love for Double Decker to be honest.
But yay for zombies and puppets!

What's up with Tsurune? It's a great show. I can't believe it's actually that low. Makes no sense.
I'm hoping it gets popular enough for a dub and one of those fancy Sentai limited releases.

I've been mightily bored with Tsurune so far. I've seen Free and Hanebado and so far I'm not really into seeing a moody combination of the two. Free was fun, Hanebad was ridiculous which made it fun. Tsurune is just too by-the-book sports anime right now and sorley lacking fun. I like a good drama, so far this isn't very good at drama either, for me at least.
Surprised Release the Spyce is that low. It's not doing much new either so maybe that's it's biggest issue. It's pretty to look at but feels like a low-rent Princess Principle I guess.

They're doing a real great job with an arc whose "getting the band back together" elements really benefitted from the gap between seasons. It also helps that the adaptation team seems to understand that a lot of die-hard Fairy Tail fans care much more about the characters and the shipping than the actual plot or the "how could ___ beat ____?" stuff.

The lack of love for, or indeed any visibility for this show is incredibly disappointing. So far I'm enjoying it more than any other show I watched this year.

Tsurune is pretty, but it's really not doing anything interesting. If you've seen a sport drama before you've already seen the show and if you've seen free! you've already meet these characters. The other sport drama, the sumo one, isn't even covered by weekly review so the genre just isn't very popular at the moment I guess. It is low considering it's good visual, but I don't think anything shifty is afoul.

Wow, Fairy Tail does not deserve to be that highly rated and Double Decker should be in the top 5. The democratic flavor of media is evil and I demand a recount.

Though I would probably rank Double Decker higher than it currently is personally, I don't think it "deserves" to be in the top 5 any more than Fairy Tail, personally speaking. I think Double Decker is a good show and I'd probably give it a solid B - which is about where it has been rated by its reviewer (not the final word, for this or any other show, but at least shows that it not being in the top 5 is not opinion without consideration). With the strength of the season as it is, a B show is unfortunately going to be closer to the bottom than the top. I can respect the opinion that it should be rated and ranked higher, to the point of being in the top 5 of the season. I can't respect the opinion that it should be ranked higher, but then turning around and dismissing the opinion of people who felt the same way about another show, without so much as an argument as to why. Now I know you are good for it, but the fact that you didn't feel the need to even make an argument, even when someone already offered a potential explanation, is at least a little telling, in my opinion. The people who think Fairy Tail, SAO, etc. are good don't just have a different opinion than you, they're wrong and they have to be corrected and admit that your opinion is the correct one. While I think it is more well meaning than those who would shit on people for even just liking a show, that sort of objectivist thinking rubs me the wrong way.
(Now I know the statement is intended at least partly as a joke, but a joke that nonetheless belies an opinion I find disagreeable).

I think Tsurune occupies an odd space. Like its sport, it's more meditative than actiony, but as a sport anime, it's not cute and fun like a slice of life tends to be. I think it's nearly perfect so far, but I definitely see why it's not everyone's cup of tea.
I'm pleased to see Run With the Wind doing better, at least on the cumulative (dunno what happened with episode 5 to kill it for people in the weeklies). It's been amazing me every week, with both its wonderful array of characters and how it's handling its storytelling.

Like Gina, I'm also really glad to see Run with the Wind picking up the pace (heh, heh) in the rankings a bit. I like running, but running is not a spectator sport, so it's really important and impressive that they've pulled off the character interactions so well that the show is legitimately compelling.
Also, hurray for Zombie Land Saga. What a bizarre, unexpectedly and unjustifiably fun show -- great to see it getting the recognition it deserves. Feels like I've described a lot've shows this season as 'unjustifiably good', now that I think about it...

I agree that generally an argument would be called for if we were really going to get into it over the 'objective' quality of DD versus FT and whether DD "belongs" in the top K for some K, but I didn't really think it was important enough to get deeply into (nor likely to turn up novel arguments), so I settled for a glib bit of poking fun.
The only not-entirely-mildew-covered observation I have right now is that I think the idea of "strength of season", which you reference to explain the rankings (and which I agree is part of the explanation this season, for what it's worth), is at odds with the common sentiment that differences in quality assessment are purely subjective. That phrase suggests the media itself is in some intrinsic sense strong, not that it just-so-happens to better coincide with entirely subjective and unchained-by-any-wider-principles sets of viewer preferences and enthusiasm in the seasonal moment.

To be honest, I was just using strength of season as a shorthand for the fact that a greater than usual portion of this season scores in the mid 4 range, which I do think could qualify it as a strong season, but by no means is the only metric by which a season could be considered strong (or weak) or intrinsically correct.

Why is Hinomaru Zumou not on the list? Like Run with the Wind, it's another show that completely shocked me this season. Unjustifiably good!

I agree -- thought the latest episode was unusually weak.
