I find it funny that nobody ever posts on the AMG reviews (well except for Zac's where Belldandy's personality was a "fighting" topic). I think it is because the AMG franchise is a civilized YES or NO proposition: You like it, you know what you are getting (including its flaws), you buy it, you move on. You don't like it, you don't care, you don't buy it, you move on.
No feelings strong enough on either side (a-la NGE) to spend time and electrons.
Anyway just my two cents and the one AMG post in the last 3 or 4 reviews.

I would have posted myself in them but I kinda am blind and didn't notice them lol. Probably too late to necro them now as well. So I'll just start here.

I'm a huge fan of the series. the manga was my first and helped propel me into anime. That being said I do agree it is sweet to a fault at times and you do have to like that sort of story to appreciate and really enjoy OMG at times. It doesn't get as dark or troublesome as other romantic comedies do at times (like Ai Yori aoshi, or Please teacher for example). It's just uber sweetness 95% of the time. I find the show does best when dealing more with the slice of life events then the magical Goddess filled ones. Though I do love my Lind.

As for the VA work, I think the cast does a good job. Eileen can be a bit flat at times but overall I think she makes a fine Belldandy. I think she does a better job as Bell then Juliet Cesario did in the OVA, who I think is much better suited to play Peorth and does a better job as her in the new tv series then as Bell in the old OVA. I loved her as Miyuki in You're Under Arrest and Peorth is a role closer to that character which I think suits her voice better.

Well it was King Booker, til he went to TNA recently. But regardless I think you meant to say;

<Ron>

DAMN!!

</Ron>

Plus Peorth is supposed to be a bit irritating anyway, I mean she's a bit full of herself but that's part of her character. I mean she is supposed to be French after all. Wink

I think you hit the entire series on the head there - manga, ova, and tv - you either like it or you don't.

Although I must say that as a whole, the manga tends to be better when compared to the tv series due to the darker story-lines that are in it (ex. the Angel Eater arc).

It seems often that is the case isn't it? The ighter material makes it to dvd in hopes of a tv airing and often the darker material gets left in the manga. Though I suppose on one hand this could be seen as a good thing. It gives you a reason to read the manga and watch the show. Maybe later on this season in Flights of Fancy they'll have some more serious material. Still got half the season left so keep your fingers crossed.

I'm not so sure about that - while the orginal OVA and the movie don't exactly follow the manga, they are a bit darker than the general series. Also, the Fighting Wings special seems to be in that direction as well. But that is not to say that the TV might not just be trying to be the light-hearted show it is and let the manga, OVA, and movie(s) take over the darker plots.

So the whole Lord of Terror arc counts as lighter material, then?

Come on, people. Keep in mind here how many volumes of manga there are for OMG/AMG, and how little material in the manga could actually qualify as "dark" (or even slightly so) by any reasonable evaluation. That the Angel Eater arc hasn't appeared in the anime could be just a matter of them not having gotten to it yet. After all, the episode count on the TV series hits 40 before this series even gets to Hild, who first appears in vol. 21 of the manga; the Angel Eater arc doesn't even start until a few volumes later. (Although, granted, the TV series has been skipping around a lot in its adaptations.)

Man, do I get tired of manga elitism. And this is a manga I actually follow, too! Razz

Haven't gotten around to seeing that arc yet - so no opinion on that arc. What I have seen of season one and two so far has been lighter material.

The Angel Eater are was animated as a part of the two episode "Fighting Wings" special - separate from the actual TV series. Hence why I said that, based on what I have seen so far, the TV series tends to cover lighter material where as the OVA and Movie tend to be a bit darker.

What elitism are you seeing here? Generally the animated TV series has lighter material where as the manga generally goes into slightly darker (in Ah! My Goddess terms anyway) topics on a more regular basis. I'm not putting anything down here - just stating a topic of discussion.

Well the LOT arc was season 1 and I was simply referring to season 2 specifically....since this is the review for the 3rd dvd in season 2. I also have to agree with radicaledward that I fail to see where this manga elitism is that you're speaking of. No one has said anything along the lines of the tv series sucks and the manga is simply better period. So I don't see where any manga elitism is here.

Guess I'm reading more between the lines than was intended in this case, then. Normally comments like that about the manga vs. anime are associated with complaints about how much better the manga is than the anime. I'm glad to hear that not the intent here, since I've been quite satisfied with the anime as a representation of the manga.

Well at least on my part none of those complaints about the failings of manga vs the anime etc etc. My comment about often the manga having more darker material then the tv series was also a general statement and not OMG exclusive. I mean some of the stuff probably gets left out to ensure a tv airing perhaps. regardless of the reasoning it's just something I've noticed. And I'm not say it's the rule and always happens, just a frequent occurrence. As for OMG I'm perfectly happy with the show so far, both season 1 and 2. I'm just waiting for a bit of more serious material in season 2. But if season 1 is any indicator it'll probably happen in the last 1 or 2 dvds of the season.
