I finally know what it feels like to be a fan of an anime, and have it brought to America only to feel that it has been butchered.
I am a huge fan of Eyeshield 21, the anime about American Football. It is the first anime that I truly became interested in since Dragonball Z. I was excited when I heard that they were going to dub it, in hopes that I could have my little bro watch it and have him get into both Football and Eyeshield. Unfortunately, they released the first episode of Eyeshield 21 on Toonami Jetstream. They not only edited a bunch of stuff out, but they basically merged two and a half episodes into one. I didn't have a huge problem with the english VAs, but somehow the editors managed to change Eyeshield from a great anime about football into what seems like a cheesy 80's cartoon about football. I'm not gonna ramble too much about it, since I feel I have probably rambled enough. I just want to say to everyone that I finally feel your pain when you see your favorite anime come to the U.S., only to see it butchered to where it is just unbearable to watch. Anyways, what anime disappointed you when it came to the U.S.? P.S. I blame the NFL for this

Dunno.because i do not live at America.But when my sister buy dub one at my country.Oh i prefer an original japanese voice (sub).You should hear Naruto's voice it is kinda weird really2 weird
 .

Hehehehe that's why when I buy dvd I don't watch it dub I watch it sub because sometimes dub can change some of the words. Something like that... So I prefer the sub ones because original language is better in my opinion....

I've had an experience similar to this, only it wasn't an anime I'd been following subbed and which was then licensed and ruined, but one I'd picked up and become a fan of dubbed, then wished for DVDs of because I later found that the Japanese version was far superior. I'm speaking, of course, of my beloved Shaman King, which, although not the worst dub 4Kids has ever done, was pretty bad in its American version. Basically, the dub managed to ruin and sap up what is actually an extremely cute, funny, and exciting series, and now fans like myself who want to buy DVDs with English subtitles because we're tired of our fansubs can't, since 4Kids stopped putting out the dubtitled uncut DVDs. I don't even care if it's dubtitled; as long as I get to hear Hayashibara Megumi, Satou Yuuko, and Paku Romi instead of Tara Jayne, Sebastian-what's-his-name, and that god-awful British guy with all of their stupid lines, I'll settle. All I can do for now is pray that someone else will pick this series up in 2009 when the 4Kids license expires and treat it right, but I sincerely doubt that will happen >.>

I do not live in the US but just the same I prefer subbed animes than dubbed ones because dubbed ones had been edited and sometimes they remove too much.

I don't think you guys are having a sub-vs-dub issue, but rather a messed-up-localizing-edits issue. Altogether two different beasts in this day and age.
For example, One Piece wasn't ruined because whatshisname speak English, but because 4kids cut the show to pieces for God-knows-why. According to the OP post this is apparently the same for Eyeshield 21, although I must admit I'm a little skeptical since I don't see it reported anywhere else. My 2 drachmas |

This. It doesn't sound like this is a dub issue at all, and it's sparking another stupid 'dubs are bad because they are not the original' debate.

I understand what you mean. Card Captor Sakura went through the same problem when it was localized.
The US branch decided that making Card Captors more focused on the action (including line edits focused for action/suspense) rather than the romance that creeps up to a dramatic finish in the second movie, would be a good idea. And a great idea it was, they ended up canceling Card Captors with such abruptness it was almost humorous. They couldn't even finish the mini story arc they were currently on... |

You have to understand there are necessary edits to be made. Translation is not 100% and there's the issue of social and cultural jokes or info that don't match up well from American to Japanese and vice versa. Often edits are also asked by the Japanese companies so the show will be more appealing for a tv airing. So not all edits are simply caused by the American companies as so many people think.

Tenchi Muyo, without a doubt. the initial release by pioneer flubbed a few things but the cartoon network broadcast butchered it.
On average each episode had around five minutes of raw footage cut out, there were numerous line redubs (saki ceased to exist, despite the fact I doubt your average tween would even know WHAT saki was), buckets of digital paint tossed on to the characters (what kind of moron goes to a bath in a bathing suit? it's not a damn pool.) even when it wasn't necessary. It was totally ruined, and it's what made me hate cartoon network with a purple passion, since they were the ones that made the edits to the show. To this day I still refuse to watch CN. |

Wikipedia claims that 4Kids wanted to bring Tony Tony Chopper quicker to the screen than wait god knows how many episodes to his first appearance to apepal to the kiddies. |

While 4kids are herald to a bastion of mistakes and problems a good portion of the onepiece edits were told to them to be done by the Japanese company that owned One Piece, Toei. So don't shuffle all the blame onto them as half of it has to go back to the parents of that bastard child and not just the babysitter. |

I can tell you that any anime that airs on American tv and is going to be aimed at children will be butchered. It's always been that way because broadcasters don't want a bunch of angry parents on their case. Your only hope is that they release an unedited dvd version or you can you know...

Is there really anything that gets editted heavily now? Pokemon, Onepiece...what else that's recent? Complain about dubs all you want, whatever, you have a sub track; but actual cuts and edits like "Cardcaptors" and "Warriors of the Wind" seem to be a thing of the past.
