Only if Castlevania still existed as a franchise... ah Konami. Bloodstained and the Netflix show it is then.
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon had 63 playable characters and played like a mess due to that. I wonder how this game will try to handle that. This trailer alone had Simon and Richtor as separate characters. |

Sadly it was too late for Nintendo when they realized they licensed Andy Richter instead.

Exactly. A number of those characters are called shadow characters. They have the same moves, but different stats and animation. So (just for example) SImon might be slow, but can take and inflict a lot of damage; while Richter is more balanced. |

Nintendo, once again making everyone else look like amateurs. Simon was good enough, but then bringing in Richter, Chrom (wonder what this means for Robin's Final Smash?), Dark Samus, and King K. Rool was nuclear. And they STILL have more stuff to reveal! Sakurai is crazy

I'm glad we are finally getting Simon and K. Rool. I only need another character for F-Zero and I'll be happy. Also since Shovel Knight is in as an assist trophy, I hope they will put in Shantae as well.

King K Rool is awesome, and though I've never gotten into Castlevania, Simon looks fun to play. Kinda bummed that Shovel Knight and Krystal are just assist trophies, it's not surprising at all but still disappointing.

The King DeDeDe troll in the King K. Rool trailer had me laughing quite a bit. That was so Sakurai and yet, I never saw it coming. Seeing K. Rool’s final smash involving the blaster from his island makes me glad to see Nintendo remembering DK 64 besides the rap song. Looking forward to trying him out when the game is released.

Simon being in Super Smash Bros. is one of the greatest things to ever happen to me. :')

It's understandable to an extent, but I think a lot of newer gamers don't realize how big a deal Simon in particular is, and how fitting it is for Smash. When they made a cartoon about Nintendo games back in the late '80s/early '90s, it had Nintendo's staples like Mario in the main cast, but it also had two of the biggest names in video games that were often spoken in the same breath at the time: Mega Man and Simon Belmont. To have them all back together again is beautiful. I mean, to give you another example, Nintendo Power, Nintendo's original direct advertising vehicle, had Mario on issue #1's cover...and guess who was on issue #2? Simon Belmont!
There was a time when new Castlevania games were basically as big of a deal as a new Zelda or Metroid for Nintendo gamers. To be honest, speaking historically, Simon should have been in before Snake, Ryu, Bayonetta, or Cloud. Simon being in (with all the amazing Castle Easter Eggs*) was already great enough. But then they went and put in Richter**, too. Amazing! (He's the hipper descendant of Simon, roughly 100 years later--possibly his great-grandson.) And that they chose iterations of both Simon and Richter's classic designs makes it even better. I imagine alternate colors will match other Belmonts, which is going to make it even cooler. Nothing previously was quite enough to consider upgrading from Smash for Wii U, but this Castlevania stuff just changed that. *They even have Carmilla's possessed mask from Castlevania II: Simon's Quest! I love how so much focused on the true core of Castlevania, because the brand really needs to reestablish itself. **If you're familiar with say, Gundam, Simon would be considered the Amuro Ray of Castlevania in terms of iconography, and Richter would be the Heero Yuy. Speaking of which, the E3 "rumors/leaks" related to Simon in Smash (and other "rumors/leaks" that have already proven true about Smash and PS4's Resident Evil 2 Remake) stated that there were new Castlevania projects in the works, possibly related to Switch. So, this could be the tip of the iceberg! As a final thought, as someone said above, nice to get a DK64 nod, too. |

There's a typo in this sentence. The name of the character is missing. |

Captain N: the Game Master. I had the same thought this morning watching it. Of note, this is the list of non-original characters in the series represented in Smash now: Simon Belmont Kid Icarus Mega Man Zelda Link Donkey Kong The Count (aka Castlevania's Dracula but not named as such) Alucard Ganon There could be others who are already assist trophies or cameos, but I'm not sure. You guys can check for yourselves Also, Mario never appeared on the show, but it was aired in a block with the Mario cartoon, which is probably what you're remembering. |

Ah, yes, you're correct! Oops! I mixed the two together on that point. I had to catch myself when I first posted, because I almost included Link as well. (But he had his own series with Zelda and co. as a side-series of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.) [Wait...I just checked the list, and Link did appear in some episodes!] Nevertheless, as you pointed out, it's still a Game Master reunion and characters like Simon that people might not resonate as much with these days were a part of the mainstream Nintendo pantheon. (Though to be fair, Game Master's Simon was a very edited version of the character.) And my point on Nintendo Power still stands, too. PS: With a few characters left to be revealed, and some sadly ruled out (like Bomberman as an Assist Trophy), I wonder who else could make it in. There are a lot of secondary or super obscure Nintendo-proper characters...but if there are any more guests from the classic era, Arthur (Ghosts N' Goblins), Ryu Hayabusa (original Ninja Gaiden blue version) Nathan "Rad" Spencer (Bionic Commando), and Strider Hiryu (Strider) also come to mind. Of those, Arthur would maybe be the coolest, in my opinion. Man, there were some really amazing '80s video game icons across the board. [...*Sees Bayou Billy on the list of characters in Captain N: The Game Master*... I wouldn't want or need to see him in Smash, but there's a character I haven't heard people talk about in a long time!] |

I would have preferred Gabriel to Richter, just so the timelines can meet, but oh well.
Now all we need are Shantae, Spring Man, Professor Layton, Rayman, Elma from Xenoblade X, Travis from No More Heroes, Crash, Solaire, Banjo-Kazooie, a Snipperclips stage, an Eternal Darkness stage, Nester from Nintendo Power, Ryu Hayabusa, a Dynasty Warrior, Qbby from Box Boy, characters from Shin Megami Tensei, characters from StarTropics, characters from Contra, Nintendo Labo, AND a Story Mode, and I'll officially be a happy camper. |
