It still disappoints me that the international version lacks the classic button colour scheme. To a similar end, has it been confirmed that the joystick contains microswitches?

Not mentioned here, but the Neo Geo CD-like USB-C pads that can plug into these are going for 3000 yen (about $27 USD), black or white. Pretty reasonable pricing all around.
But, depressingly: People who played it at E3 indicated neither the built-in joystick nor the pad have clicks, so no micro switches. One Japanese outlet claims the feeling of the stick is different between the two regional models.
I'm not shocked or anything, this is basically a novelty item and driving up the price to please connoisseurs who likely wouldn't be satisfied anyway doesn't make sense. Still, it...sucks, all the same, and quite a tease to get a revived Neo Geo pad only for it to eliminate the point of having a Neo Geo pad. At least now I don't regret getting a Neo Geo Pad 2 not long before this!

A version of it is coming out in the West though, with 40 games (with 14 differing from the Japanese version), as explained in the article.
