Sounds like they will adjust some parts for future reprints, like changing the mention of the protagonist fighting in that specific war to some unknown or fictional past war.

Poor decision. These people will never accept you or take you back. You're bending your knee for nothing.

It's been said before but yeah, the tweets are definitely not ok. I do hope he is seriously reflecting his views, learn why he said was wholly wrong and has a change of heart on things (and he's not just saying what needs to be said to avoid continued bad PR).

i guess he is distorting history in his manga so they are very angry, i personally don't care cause it's a piece of fiction
just took a glance of the replies and Chinese people are brutal with their attacks
am i surprised? no, because it's a known fact that their favorite pastime is being keyboard warriors

Maybe rewrite the whole thing to remove a certain aspects of the light novel and makes it like Youjo Senki? I don't know, seems honestly like a better decision to do so.

Worse still, this sets a precedent and now this Shonen Jump Weekly will go after other LN or mangakas they deem "unfair" and expect apologies or something more. This reminds me of the incident about the Koran in the jojo OVAs, that no doubt that precedent made people go after the music in the second season of Noragami several decades later.

The apology is not to make people accept him back. Currently the situation is that Chinese companies have already stopped doing business to all the publishers and other companies that are involved in and might even get some Chinese companies into political troubles. Apology would be the only way to prevent further affecting those business which would have a total value far more than the author himself can ever create

It is just a few lines of passing mention on background setting that doesn't actually help the actual plot

Which content was never there? The part where he specified which war the MC killed people in was in fact in the novel. So no one made that up at all.

Part of the blame was targeted toward some content in the novel's web version which have already been removed when published

When it comes to people that are out to destroy your career it is questionable if apologizing is a good idea. There is a good chance that they will only take his apology as a sign of weakness and attack him even more. There is also something creepy about a communist government being able to influence the entertainment industry in other countries and I sometimes wonder if China uses these incidents to test out how far they can take it.

Man, I thought Hollywood was plagued and beyond salvation regarding political correctness but it seems to be spreading.

First understand two Japanese officers held a "contest" to see who could kill with a sword 100 (raised to 150) Chinese in "close combat".
"Contest" and "close combat....In fact they were killing unarmed POWs,both officers were tried, convicted and executed in 1948.
Now you failed to realize the web novel very much states the protagonist's killings took place during the Nanking Massacre.
And the web novel was released in China....
Also folks here seem to be overlooking that the author has a long history of posting racists tweets....

New Life which officially licensed and published Young Again in Another World digitally in China provides both the WN and LN on the site.
The author's hero is written to have killed Chinese with a sword during WWII,the LN tries to alter that the WN does not.
In 1937 Nanjing Massacre happened:The Imperial Japanese Army went on a killing spree, between 2000,000 to over 300,000 Chinese civilians were slaughtered.
It was during this time those two Japanese officers held their 'who can kill the most with a sword' contest, the majority being unarmed POWs.
And you and other wonder why some Chinese and Japanese people are upset over this character.
