That looks literally like Fairy Tail. Well whatever, as long as its interesting it should be nice. I am quite intrigued by the “new type of fantasy” and what its actually gonna be like.

Early Fairy Tail looked literally like Rave, so the comparison of this to Fairy Tail would be expected, Art evolves slowly over time, the dude isn't gonna have radically different styles compared to what he finished about a year ago.
Check chapter 1 of one piece compared to now, they look nothing alike, but compare One Piece from a year ago to now and they look similar.

The female character looks very cute just by the sketches. While it doesn't reveal much, I'm still looking forward to seeing what exactly this might end up being.

Like said above, it's Mashima's Art style. Every mangaka have their particular way of drawing characters. Just look at Kishimoto, Oda, Rumiko Takahashi, Toriyama, Tesuka. So it's not a shocker that the sketches look like Fairy Tail characters.
Given his art style evolved over the years from Rave to Fairy Tail, I'm sure his next works will evolve into a new form, but don't expect it to happen overnight.

I guess Mashima will give his next MC that winter-themed name, based on the word "fuyu". Although I do recall him writing a one-shot manga about Super Sentai-style heroes who are filmed fighting real monsters to get the best ratings where the MC was named "Mafuyu" (meaning "midwinter"). He also considered naming Natsu's brother either that or "Fuyuki", before deciding his name should be Zeref.
