I'm pretty mixed on Terra Formars. Parts were very entertaining, but the entertainment value is mitigated by the pacing with episodes 3-13 cover less than a day, and its hard not to be frustrated by how clear the story makes it that the few elites are the only ones with a fighting chance, so there was no point in sending the others. It's different for something like Kabaneri where steps are taken to protect the populace, but there will be large casualties if that fails. I guess I would think that part one of selecting your crew for a mission like that would be narrowing the list to people who might not die on first contact.

Don't forget that, from what I understood, the roaches evolve and improve since their last encounter, so their new found intelligence and reflexes may have taken them by surprised.

Terraformars is a good action series but the first season had so many editing and story flow issues that it is a bit disappointing especially when compared to the much better second season. The show is good at being brutally violent without descending into nihilism. The human chimera power system is a good concept and while some recent shows have used similar systems none of those shows have matched the pure action of Terraformars.

It's better by virtue of just being dumb schlock where good racist stereotypes fight bad racist stereotypes throughout, as opposed to here where it takes half the season to get its head out its arse, kill off the pointless chaff characters & just embrace its stupidity.

The best way to look at this show, is as a way to watch things die, because you are not really going to enjoy anything. Go into it as if you are about to watch some famously trashing 80s OVA, sadly without Manga UKs edgy dub.

Yeah, though I really think it's really pretty good despite some frustration and being not particularly consistent, plus the runtime was indeed short for the pacing that would have been perhaps more okay if they were going to have a long run and for such an amount of story as it's clear it's supposed to be a big, lengthy series.

This is a good point. I remember the lines of dialogue about this as well.

Yeah, haven't seen season two yet but like you said there were some cool features to the show already.
Nice. I'm looking forward to finally seeing the second season when Viz releases it. I too heard some good things about the second season. I'm interested in how I'm going to fully respond to the change in art style, I think I like both styles, since I liked the style for season one. Not that they didn't clearly need more budget/time to be able to animate the detailed style more than they did. As was said, the staff did a pretty good job with the action scenes even with that limitation.

It was more about fighting between governments and the Chinese characters may have been the bad guys in the second season but most of them knew they had been given horrible orders. I thought the show made it clear that they were obeying orders from the Chinese government and if they didn't follow those orders than bad things would happen to their families. That was why it was important for the good guys to get a message back to Earth since that would get the Chinese government to back down.

I'm sure this show lacks the charm of Violence Jack or MD Geist.

TF was good. Loved the main theme that plays during battle. Loved the OP and ED songs. The ED theme reminded me of Power Rangers for a second.
Quote: | The emphasis on Akari in the first episode also proves misleading, since he doesn't have a bigger role than anyone else in the squad after episode one. |
I liked it when the focus was on Shoukichi.

It's pretty telling that Viz didn't use the roaches on the cover art.

Yeah, all three of those songs were good. Loved how hype those themes were.
