Even when TP was around years ago, I only bought Sgt Frog from them.
Anyway, is Stu still involved?

Is it a new group that's just taking the name or is that egotistical dude actually getting back in after so many years?

Disco Stu Levy (aka DJ Milky) is the owner of Tokyopop. There's been no news of an ownership change.

I am looking forward to one of the cutest mangas being licensed: Futaribeya!! And Konohana Kitan was a sweet anime. I'll pick up the manga if they ever bring it to Finland!

I was really excited about Konohana Kitan but reading these comments has me a little worried. Why is Tokyopop so bad?

I actually had a dream about Tokyopop the other night. Freaky.

A long history of poor translations, cheesy releases, and dropping series and sitting on the license. This is already a mess by licensing Konohana when nobody has done Konohanatei yet.

Konohana supposedly has Konohanatei included already. At least the same publisher has the rights for both series, so I doubt they would let someone publish only the second part.

Yea that sounds awful...I was hoping it would gain some more popularity but if thats the case it will probably just end up hurting it.

I'm going to be cautiously optimistic but that's always my fear with manga, that a publisher will go under or otherwise have issues with the license, and the series languishes in limbo. I think some only get one shot too, or the fandom will have died down too much.

No doubt that TP will never again have the catalog and market sizes they once had. Time will tell whether or not Stu learned from what caused his company to temporarily close its Amer. division. However, the blame you put on this company's executives shouldn't necessarily be applie to the translators themselves.

No thanks, Tokyopop. You burned me once, don't think you can win over people again.
I'll never forget when you told Initial D fans who hated your translation that "maybe we should pack white out and sharpies in with every volume" and you almost changed Takumi's occupation to pizza delivery. Don't think you can weasel your way back into the market and get away with it.
