Wow they got through that by the skin of their teeth, I wonder where all that money at the end came from. Now we need to know if this is the last step before them pursuing the TV series that this was supposed to eventually lead up to, or they come back with another Kickstarter like an extended title sequence.

Someone call netflix so they can fund the trailer version and not the shitty episode 0.

I actually expected this to come to fruition a little bit easier. Didn't donate and I'm not really interested myself, but if this leads to an eventual anime, I'll definitely look forward to that, so I guess I can be mildly excited for that slim possibility.

This seems a little sketchy, they hadn't even reached 20K a week before the deadline and suddenly 30K were pledged in the last three days? Was there some big event that convinced a buckload of Tokyoites to dump money into this dying franchise?

The tail end of a lot of kickstarters see a pretty big influx of pledges. I don't think it's particularly unusual. Though it would be pretty interesting if they did indeed fudge the numbers some how just so they wouldn't lose the $20k that was pledged....

I've never really followed how these crowdfundings go, but is it really normal that way over half of the total pledged money comes from that tail end period? Given how much importance people give to the launch and first few days of the campaign, seems unlikely

It depends on a project this size, but yeah, 50% or more in the last couple of days is normal. The average project earns about 30% in the first couple of days, and 30% in the last couple of days, or something like that.
If I remember right, the original UTD project went from about $450k with a couple of days to go, to $850k by the end, which is an even more incredible amount, so this seems reasonable to me.

Providing that they see any appeal in it.

I'd just like a continuation of the anime instead of all this roundabout stuff.
