Speaking of Yaoi Bait on Ice, I mean Yuri on Ice, when is the sequel movie coming out? Are they pulling an Attack on Titan by waiting years and killing the momentum?

I hate to say it, but the female representation in these sort of votes is getting ridiculous. Both Free movies? Not to say they are bad but it's the whole Love Live situation again just reversed.

No, I might vote for Flip Flappers, too. I'm more surprised by the absence of Made in Abyss in this list. Did it not gain the critical acclaim and viewership in Japan that it appears to have drawn here in the West?

At least one show from Studio 3Hz made the list, Princess Principal. I suspect the substantial gap in sales between Flip Flappers (~800 copies per release) and Princess Principal (~5,000) might have something to do with PriPri being on the list. I'm happy to see any news that might help keep this innovative studio, which emphasizes anime-original productions, afloat.

I can hardly call this an "anime fan award" seeing the results, this is much more of a "female anime fan award", clearly shown in the results. Not that I have a problem with it, but its quite apparent here

Made in Abyss is listed as #9 on the official site.

It's what I'm voting for, too.

It's almost like Yuri on Ice has the 4th highest anime disc sales since 2000 or something.

Call it Yaoi bait all you want -even though both the show and the creators have given ample confirmation-, this poll results show that the momentum is certainly not dying in any capacity Laughing The movie is currently in production and we know they're working in composing the music -presumably for the skating programs-. Free was inactive for two years and the momentum is still there, YOI will be fine Wink

American anime fans seem to forget that Yuri on Ice fandom is still riding high thanks to all the merch, voice actor events, concerts, collaborations with Sanrio, and the upcoming film. (Still waiting on my live action musical stage play with rollerblades as skates!) I love Filp Flappers and Made in Abyss but neither series has gotten nearly as popular as YOI but I agree it doesn't need to win twice since it ended in 2016 (so did Flip Flappers so technically no Fall 2016 anime "should" be here.) Although I'm sure if Attack on Titan season 2 or My Hero Academia (15th place) was leading no one would make such a big deal out this poll. Rolling Eyes

Glad BBB&B is 8th because this season is more relaxed than I expected.

I am not denying that the main characters are gay. But I find it very stupid (and frustrating) that YOI's producers insist on playing the yaoi bait card, even though some of us are happy with it being a gay anime.

You’re...cool with it being something but isn’t?

I too love the high-fantasy romp about a merman falling for a street fighter that is Yuri!!! on ice then in that case!

Same-sex MCs who fall in love with one another =/= “a gay anime”. That’s what the director and creator want people to stop doing. It’s Yuuri’s story, and part of that story of learning to love who he is is about loving Victor. In ways that cannot be shoved into a single box, hence the final words in the series, “we call everything on the ice ‘love’.”

Didn't the latest Free movie see a huge drop in video sales?

The recap movies are actually selling pretty well considering they're pure recap. Overall they've clearly turned in enough profit for KyoAni to decide on making a third season

But... they're not? They're not calling it yaoi because it is not yaoi (not to mention the term yaoi has been irrelevant in Japanese media for ages, the term you're looking for is BL), but they've never "baited" and have been pretty straightforward within reasonable terms especially considering all the hurdles the show had to go through to be what it is. Yamamoto mentioned in one of the fanbooks that many people even tried to prevent the kiss scene from episode 7 from happening, but that she pushed and pushed because she was not going to give up on it. She's fought tooth and nail to make YOI what it is

MHA at #15? Come on Japan, MHA is top 5 worthy. YOI and co are impossible to beat though. The fanbase for those 2 series are enormous and are more then just passionate.
