I was just wondering what you would consider viewing anime on Adult Swim as on the survey. I didn't want to pick Toonami Jetstream because I never use that but it was the only similar web site noted. I just picked other Anime smile

Have you ever seen a survey that doesn't ask that question? It's been on literally every survey I've ever taken from a media company, magazine or website that asked you basic demographic information.

You really don't know? We stated that bluntly in the first poll, so I didn't think it was necessary to repeat it.

For starters, ANN doesn't know your income, nor does it want to. We want to know what percentage of our readers have x income.

That helps us sell ads.

The more we know about our readers, the more money we can earn off of ads.

If 99% of our readers make between $10,000 and $20,000, we'd focus out attempts at selling ads to companies that have products or services for that income group. Obviously we wouldn't want to sell ads to Rolls Royce. If we target the right advertisers, they're more likely to advertise, their results will be better, so they'll continues to advertise, and in the long run, ANN earns more money off the ads than if we sold them to the wrong companies.

The more money ANN makes off of ads, the more money we can spend on new features (ie: I want to hire a second programmer to add new features while Dan focuses on the encyclopedia), and content.

This was meant as an addition / correction to the previous survey. That survey, and the one from last year, asked a lot of questions that will help determine what our readers (that's you) want us to do in order to improve the site.

Should we cover video games (yes), if so, what genres (not sports), are our reviews useful (yes), should we review hd products (not really), should we try to provide you with anime previews (most definitely), etc....

That answer your question?

If you watch/download anime from the Internet; Which of the following services do you use? (Please select all applicable choices)

I'm just curious what the purpose behind this question was? I'm not trying ti imply anything, like it's to help figure out how many watch fansubs etc., I'm just simply curious what knowing this would gain you guys at ANN. Unless you planned to have some sort of anime service where we can pay to "rent," or download, or something along those lines, titles here I just simply don't get what that answer gains for you. Sorry if I'm missing something obvious.

A news segment takes up less space, meaning more news on the front page.

Wow you must live somewhere cheap. I make more then 10,000 a year and I'm pretty broke (and I still live with my parents). An apartment in my area is $600-1000+ month in the area I live, and the $600 would be cockroach filled.

But it's all in where you live, my friend and I were talking about buying homes. He asked why don't you just buy a cheap house where you live? And I was like because a cheap house where I live is still $80,000 to $100,000 and this is very not nice areas (like you blink and your car is gone). He lives two hours away and a cheap house there is $12,000.

Honestly I can't imagine anyone getting by on their own making less then $30,000 a year. And that's not rich, that's living a pretty basic comfortable life.

Well, I'm in the 25,001-35,000 bracket, and I live on my own... My rent's only 540 a month, but the place is really nice... some areas are just really expensive. I happen to live in a really cheap area.

I'm guessing you don't actually know what these people make or you have no sense of dollar value. There's no where in America where under $10K as household income (family income) is a reasonable income without being on poverty. I was making more than that a year working part time in high school.

I don't think this question has anything to do with fansubs. I think it has more to do with those first episode previews that ANN features from time to time. Moste of them have been hosted at IGN, but if there's a service that is used more by people then the advertisers might be inclinded to switch to the higher trafic service. That's what I think anyway.

News is now self contained, "click for more" style. I actually prefer this method, it's not just easier to skim through, but it's also easier to reference and link back to when trying to share with other forums (though "permalink" works just as well for that). It's done with larger pieces already, but I like this too.

Well like I said where my friend lives (about two hours away) it's $12,000 to buy a cheap house, where I'm at it's $80,000 to a $100,000 and these are very not nice areas. Just to give you an idea how expensive the area I live has gotten, the house my parents bought in 1987 for $127,000 is now worth $400,000. Even small condos are going for $200,000 to $250,000. Brand new homes $500,000 to $700,000. This is a pretty middle class area.

Though after I thought about it a bit I think they guy must have ment $100,000.

Though one of my friends in high school, her parents combined made about a $100,000, but you would never know it. They were so bad with their money their car got reposed once (The killer thing is they had the money to get it back, so why didn't they pay the car bills on time?), their cable and even their electricity got turned off at some point (once again they have the money to turn it back on, they just where not getting around to paying their bills). Some people just suck at paying their bills.

You don't need to live in a really cheap area to survive off 25,000-35,000 a year. At least, not in South Jersey. I was making about 30,000 last year when I was up there, and living very comfortably in a nice area. I was shocked to find out a few months ago that 40,000 is now considered the tail end of middle class. I've always considered myself middle class...

Of course, I'm married and living in GA now. Starting over again salary wise sucks. Sad But my anime budget is still going strong! Very Happy

The house that we rent is $2900 a month (some of my friends spend around $1500 a month for a small studio) which is considered a real bargain in the city. I don't think it's possible to live with an income of less than $20,000 in San Francisco, and I was struggling when I made $30,000.

I suppose it makes it that much easier to drop a couple hundred bucks on DVDs when gas is almost $4 a gallon and dinner for 2 can easily run $100. Then again minimum is around $10 an hour which is still nowhere near enough to live off of.

Because of this regional variation as well as dependents the income question is often a tough gauge to use. Recently at AVS forums there was a similar poll. It turned out that the percentage of people who own both HD-DVD and Blu-ray players didn't reflect the income bracket since many of us poorer people spend a good amount of their income (I spend around 20%) on A/V gear and end up buying both formats while many in the $250,000+ bracket had families, house payments, car loans, and significant others to convince spending $1000+ on a DVD player is a good idea. This is why I think more specific questions like do you rent, how many do you buy, and the present do you download type questions are more valuable.

It does depend on where you live; you can be screwed in an area like California's San Francisco Bay. I myself make $18,000 and take home $14,000. My rent is $525, and I end up killing more cockroaches than meeting people on the street. That's Sacramento, mind you.

So yeah. My beef with companies that go for the anime elite, those people who are willing to pay $700 for an "O-my-God-wow! Moe / Sci-fi title of the day with the love-pillow extra," is justified.

Since when did anime "fans" become 14th century French? Who was France's queen who said "let them eat cake" before she got beheaded? Is she a screaming fan of TMRevolution when she reincarnated? Razz

So yeah. No ads about the anime versions of Royle Royces, please.
