NEWS: Section23 to Release Naisho no Tsubomi, Kissdum R - Engage Planet Anime

As mentioned in the article, Kiss Dum was previously licensed, but BV USA never put it out because that company technically licensed the original TV version, which has never seen a home video release in Japan. It's an infamous story where the original creator of the story (not to mention director) had a mental breakdown after Episode 1 was finishing up, and since he had never shared his plans for the story with anyone else involved, the remaining staff (& replacement director) essentially had to make up their own story as it went on. It also didn't help that Kiss Dum was, for all intents & purposes, primarily just a testing ground for Satelight so that the staff could prepare for working on Macross Frontier.

The "R" version of Kiss Dum apparently fixed what it could of the story (one entire episode early on was even removed & deemed a non-canon OVA episode), and it wasn't even given a home video release in Japan until it received enough pre-orders. Therefore, I'm amazed that this anime is even being given a second chance, but I'll definitely be grabbing this.

What's most bizarre, though, is that Maiden Japan is the entity putting it out. As the name punningly indicates, MJ's titles all have female leads, and while Kiss Dum does has a female lead, I'm pretty sure Aiba, the male lead, is technically the "main character", but I won't argue semantics if it means that we're getting this show.
