Very cool news. The BD releases will be a great opportunity to finally watch Barefoot Gen.

Fair warning: Barefoot Gen is much more visually graphic about the atrocities of bombs than Grave of the Fireflies.

I'm a big Tenchi fan, but of all the loosely-based spin-offs, all I really remember about Photon was how much I did not care about it (the title character proved genuinely irritating, way moreso than Tenchi). Yet with Discotek license-rescuing it, I may well feel like giving it another shot.

I've not been buying all that much anime recently, but I will almost definitely pick up Barefoot Gen. That was an amazing story.

Barefoot Gen is one of those things I feel like I need to own, but I don't really know what sort of mood I'd have to be in to actually sit down and watch. The same holds true for Grave of the Fireflies.

That's true, to be honest. I don't know when, or if, I'll ever rewatch it, but having it on Blu-ray feels like the right thing to do to support it.

The only part of Barefoot Gen I've seen was the bomb going off part at a panel for "anime for adults" at a con a few years ago. It was haunting as all hell. Beautifully animated, but dear god. I've been meaning to see the whole thing. Now's the chance.

Barefoot Gen is a truly heartbreaking and even horrifying film, but it's definitely worth watching. I would say it's more emotional than Grave of the Fireflies, even if the film itself isn't quite as good. It's also probably not something that should be watched dubbed in English, but the dub itself is very tastefully done if you must listen to it.

Aw, no Blu-ray for Photon?
I'd have double-dipped for sure. Aun was one of Yui Horie's earliest roles, and I think her first non-bit part role, so I'd have loved to have a remastered version of her performance.

Koda: Actually, ironically, Barefoot Gen's intended audience was children. But only adults can probably handle it at all.

I love Photon, it's a fun, funny, whacked-out series(which I once used for a Hamster Dance AMV) but, this being just a DVD re-release I'll need to know if it actually looks better than the CPM release before I double-dip.
