Surprised that there are still enough disc rentals to be worth tracking.

Eh, Redbox kiosks are pretty popular.

I definitely want to get mad at the possibility that this garbage movie could make even a single dollar, but I have to admit seeing The Boss Baby kick Ghost in the Shell's ass at every turn amuses me to no end.

Squad: That's fine. Every Boss Baby which makes money will lead to at least five more Emoji Movies. #themoreyouknow

I'm sure you'll be happy to know it ended up making some money at the global box office and will continue to make money at retail.

Yeah,
I'm amazed, too, that the most important thing to be upset at is whether or not one lousy anime/manga adaptation actually makes any money!

Yeah, I dunno about that.
Months ago the movie's global projection was at $200 million which still would have seen them lose about $60 million when you consider all the marketing and production costs. Considering it underperformed by a good $30 million even by that projection... well you do the math.
So as you can see, I was joking. It probably isn't going to make any money back. Baywatch and The Mummy might have been smash hits overseas but Ghost in the Shell most definitely isn't in that club. Though admittedly, I can't help but admire your optimism.

I personally found the movie to be more likable and spiritually in tune with the manga compared to its somewhat more pretentious 95' predecessor. It's not bad.

Squad: Sorry, but unlike, say Valerian, Ghost in the Shell will be profitable. Don't forget that this is just for American home video sales, and that the movie streets in Japan near the end of the month.
CC: Considering those talking whatever CG toons are a license to print money, it's quite an accomplishment, actually.

Ah, here's the information I needed to put this news into context. The second best of a bad bunch, then.

I'm not sure it's that complimentary to the live action movie for it to be doing only second best to Boss Baby. I'm still kind of curious to watch it but I'll probably just wait for it to be on HBO to watch it.

CCT: See my previous comment above. It's very much so an accomplishment. Especially considering it's doing well in one of the next-gen media formats, too.

Cool.
I also mostly liked it and thought it was pretty decent.
Neat to see that the impressive design work did really actually push more people to pick up the 4K blu-ray among those that decided they were picking up the movie too.
Like GATSU mentioned, I think that the disc could do decently in Japan too. I also remember reading they also actually got their anime cast to do the dub for the movie so that might also get some non-theater goers to pick it up.
