While the project cannot be backed from outside Japan, the staff revealed that it will announce a separate project for overseas backers.

Hey Visual Art's, how about a Kickstarter for a second installment of the Angel Beats! visual novel? Or to finish and release the English localization that was disclosed at ACen last year?

Japan hasn't embraced crowdfunding nearly as much as the West but Kud still remains an incredibly popular character among otaku. I'll be interested to see how this one moves.

Still think a more profitable choice would have been to animate the Angel Beats Track Zero / Heaven's Door content. But then Visual Arts would have to be collaborating with the novel/manga publishers so that'd make things more troublesome. If that's the case, then what about an OVA for Harmonia?

Would way rather have Tomoyo After anime over this one any day. But ah well.

As for the second installment, I'm sure that is another story because of Maeda's health. It was his from the beginning.
Right now they are working on releasing Little Busters. I'm assuming they are concentrating on one release at a time to give the best attention to each.

1. We got Tomoyo After. It was a bonus episode for Clannad

2. Might be right about that Maeda thing but he's also been working on a full album that's releasing next week. Busy guy, despite his health.

That was not Tomoyo After. That was a very small snippet of Tomoyo's arc in the Clannad VN. Tomoyo After has a lot more sex with Tomoyo and focuses a good deal on Tomoyo's little brother and a couple characters exclusive to only Tomoyo After.

Glad we're getting this instead of that awful Tomoyo After thing...Worst girl and worst Key work. Now just have to hope we can get a movie...I would actually pay for this if I could.

Actually, I believe the whole reason why Angel Beats! Heaven's Door, or any other installations haven't been animated has a far simpler reason: PA Works never adapts anything with a preexisting visual design, which is why they only do adaptations of novels or original anime. Angel Beats! was an original anime that was made from a collaboration from Key (Jun Maeda) and PA Works, then came the other installments (aka the visual novel and Heaven's Door manga). But I guess another factor would be Maeda's health, but all I know about that is that he had heart surgery (or a transplant) ironically.

i wonder if one of those 'we buy things from Japan for you' proxy buying services could be convinced to be a proxy-backing service as well. If there's limited editon Kud-related goodies I want them...

Kudryavka voice actress Naomi Wakabayashi, singer Suzuyu, and game director Sakigake will introduce the anime adaptation in a livestream on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. JST.

I don't know whoever the hell is this Sakigake you're talking about. It's 魁 (KAI) or Unryuuji Kai, the writer of VisualArt's many titles, like CLANNAD, Angel Beats!, Harmonia and Rewrite anime.

Already over 50% funded in just a day. Looks like Japan (or at least otaku) has opened up to crowdfunding.

They already had. It's just not in English, so no one in the US pays attention to it. Ignorant comments like yours perpetuating this stereotype doesn't help either.

https://motion-gallery.net/
https://www.makuake.com/
https://a-port.asahi.com/

Those are just three sites off the top of my head. It's more diverse than English, where everyone only pays attention to KickStarter or IndieGoGo, so people actually have to advertise and/or put in some effort to get awareness.

Yeah, checking out Makuake and Motion-Gallery and I don't see anywhere near 15 million yen in support in a single day. I'll stick by my comment, thanks Smile
