Miyazaki will retire... when he dies. The man has film-making in his DNA. If he tries to retire, he just comes up with more ideas and can't stop himself from acting on them.

I have the impression that maybe EVA 3.0 was the last film. The original TV show never had a clear cut ending anyway.

What Hideaki Anno failed to say was that he himself retired from making good anime.

Wait, I wasn't thinking that. Lol, what trite. I'm guessing you were going for a "haha, GOT EM!!" reaction though. And who exactly are you referring to anyway? Your wording doesn't make it clear. Both's "grumpy old man" images are largely facades created by millennial otaku and clickbait thirsty journalists who take an assortment of their quotes out of context (one such instance is referenced in this exact article) or outright make some up (i.e. the infamous "anime was a mistake" line). Heck, Anno just recently was responsible for the Japan Animator Expo project, where he basically just pooled a bunch of upcoming and fresh industry talent and let them go nuts with the budgets he allotted them through Studio Khara, with the only restriction being that their films had to be under 10 minutes. If that's what you consider someone being a grumpy old man afraid of change, I've got bad news for you. Also, just as a mod told me once: you're not as funny as you think you are. |
