Well I just thought it might be interesting to find out, since the first 5 or so episodes have come out for most current anime series, what everyone thinks are the series to watch, I think that Kaiji, Gundam 00, clannad and ghost seem to be shaping up nicely (though not many episodes of ghost hound have been released yet)

I've started to think of this season as one particularly strong in dating sim adapted series.

Clannad is the most famous one, and IMO it's living up to expectations right now. So far, during these light and happy moments, it's just as funny if not funnier than Kanon 2006 was. The animation is plenty solid as it is fullscreen, and the characters are all really interesting and memorable (mostly), especially Sunohara (silly blonde guy). It retains a similar feel as Kanon and Air, but there's a lot of things that make it unique too.

Then there's ef ~a tale of memories~ which is really impressing me. I love how it tells almost two completely seperate stories, but you already see them slowly coming together. One takes place in a quiet rural place and it feels slower and more relaxed, and one's more fast paced, but both of them are really well done.

Kimikiss exceeded my expectations by a lot. I loved how they focused on not just the main character, but him, his friend, and the girl, all at once. Not to mention the watercolor animation...

Yeah, I'm really enjoying Clannad as well. I love the characters and the intriguing storyline makes me anticipating the next episode. Also, the ED is adorable. ^^;

Another anime that I love this season is Minami-ke. It's hilarious and a lot of fun; it brightens my mood every time I watch it. The character, Kana, who's akin to Tomo from Azumanga Daioh, is probably the standout. She's so quirky and awesome. I feel bad for Fujioka, the boy who has a crush on her, because Kana's under the impression that he's a gang boss and that his confessions of love are challenges. Anime hyper

Personally, I find this to be one of the weakest primary seasons (being spring and fall) I've seen since I started getting back into anime a couple years ago. I've been following nearly all of the major shows, but not a single one of them looks too great. The one's I like enough to actively keep following them at my anime club are as follows: Bleach, Minami-ke, Clannad, Ghost Hound (so far, only 2 eps though), Kaiji, and Shion no Ou. None of these I would rate above an 8/10 right now (except Bleach, which I still have hesitantly sitting at a 9 right now).

Minami-ke was a big surprise to me, I didn't think I'd like it as much as I do. It's witty and careful, and they have the timing down perfectly, but it's subtle. You have to be paying attention to get the jokes, and they'll set a joke up, leave it for a couple minutes, then deliver the real punchline after you'd forgotten about it. They also develop their jokes really carefully and deliberately. It's one of my anime club's favorite shows this season, and I've probably seen each episode 6-7 times now.

Clannad - More KyoAni awesomeness. It's easy to just summarize it by saying that aforementioned phrase, but it's really true. I know a lot of people who absolutely detest harem anime (like myself) who just love this show so far. It's really genuinely funny. Most shows write out scripts, and the characters say their lines; but Clannad doesn't feel that way, they talk more the way real people talk, it's something I couldn't quite put my finger on until someone else pointed it out to me, but this is undeniably one of the main reasons KyoAni is so popular among a lot of people (again, myself included). The only character I genuinely dislike is the main female character, every other character in this show is genuinely quite funny.

Ghost Hound
- Not much to say so far, it looks like it will be good. Right now though? Masterful sound work, the like of which I haven't heard in a long long time. The art is top notch, the mood is genuinely off (in a good way), and it looks like it's going to get really dark. I'll keep watching it for quite a while I'm sure.

Shion no Ou - What can I say, I'm a sucker for these sorts of game shows after Hikaru no Go. What really threw me off was how incredibly dark this series is. Yes, it's about shougi and a young girl who wants to get better... but spoiler[she's mute. That's right, the main protagonist in the story can not speak, and she's mute because when she was like 5 years old she watched her parents get murdered in front of her. Now that she's getting good at shougi and trying to become a professionals, she's been showing up in newspapers and has become the target for pedophiles (yes, they're actually pedophiles). ]WAY more mature themed than I could have possibly expected, I really like it though.

Kaiji - Actually, another show I didn't like at first. Probably the art style and the noses (ok, I still don't like the noses, but I've warmed up to the general style). If you think a show about rock paper scissors is boring, you're wrong. That's right, this show is about rock-paper-scissors, and it's awesome. It's basically a show about game theory and psychology, and it's definitely the favorite serious show of the season for our club. It's not just about winning, it's about knowing you've won before you even play the cards.

I guess there's a few other shows I've been watching, but that's mainly because I have nothing better to do, I probably wouldn't follow them if I didn't spend so much time in my anime club room: Bamboo Blade (this one kind of falls in the above category right now, but I do KNOW it will drop down into this category after a couple more episodes, so I'll put it down here now), Blue Drop (I'm on the fence for this one, need to watch more), Genshiken 2, Hero Tales (which I think I'm going to drop), Rental Magica (probably going to drop), Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro, Shugo Chara, and Moyashimon.

EDIT: Totally forgot, I'm also watching Shakugan no Shana II, and Gundam 00. They'd both fall into the "when nothing I really want to watch is released" category number 2. Knew I was forgetting something (I'm probably forgetting a few more....). Those of you out there who classify Clannad as "another dating sim anime" are doing yourself a great disservice. The quality and feel is absolutely incomparable to most adaptations, and I've seen quite a few of them. If it weren't for the main female character, who occupies relatively little screen time, you'd never even be able to tell its origins.

EDIT 2: Let's not get into the shows we've dropped... because as for myself, if it's not on the lists above, I dropped it. I've watched at least 1 episode, but usually 3 episodes of every single show this season.

EDIT 3: /sigh, Night Wizard is another one I almost forgot in category number 2 for me. It's certainly not good enough that I'd watch it over anything else, but I will watch it over nothing... sometimes

I've also seen Clannad and can say it's been pretty good so far, and Kimikiss isn't bad either, but for some reason I feel like it's a little too early to make any judgments on that one yet. The second season of Shakugan no Shana looks promising, and I recommend it if you've seen the first season already.

Sadly to say Fall 2007 doesn't shape up to the amazing Spring season from this year or even Fall 2006.

Clannad is good stuff but it's not going to convert anybody who isn't a fan of Air/Kanon. Blue Drop is interesting, Gundam 00 seems to be pacing itself nicely and Ghost Hound looks like shaping up to be some amazing stuff.

Actually, this is completely not true. There's a number of people at my club who didn't really like either of the previous two who are really getting into Clannad and think it's just hilarious. Of course, they may very well not like where the show is headed, but they seem to like it quite a bit right now.

I find it interesting that so few are watching Myself; Yourself. It's right up there for me this season, along with Blue Drop. Maybe you guys are just getting bored of romance/comedies? But it really is funny and nice, and the animation quality is superb... plus there's some kind of plot building up that's somewhat vague at the moment but seems to pertain to Sana's past. All in all though I'm really enjoying it.

I'm going to check out Clannad and EF later; one anime based on a visual novel at a time is enough for me. That and since I'm reading the Suzuka manga it might all get a bit much.

I'm also watching Shakugan no Shana Second this season. It's so far not as interesting as the first season but I'll stick with it since it hasn't really taken a nosedive either.

I dropped Hayate no Gotoku (getting boring), Dragonaut - the Resonance (the 6th episode was lame and I'm sick of the boobs), Bamboo Blade (not really interesting), and Rental Magica (I really hate shows with this kind of theme, the whole ghosts/shintou or whatever crap), all after watching a few episodes and deciding I wasn't interested.

Blue Drop is my favorite of the season. It's science fiction elements mixed with some mystery is pretty interesting. It also is very well animated.

Gundam 00 is great as well if you like the Gundam franchise or are in need of something to fill your mecha quota until Code Geass returns. It's story is intriguing so far if slow paced, seems to be setting up for something big. The animation is superb and the Gundam's designs are awesome.

Night Wizard if you want a quirky action/adventure/comedy show. I find it pretty funny and I'm liking the story and characters thus far.

Lastly Ghost Hound, if you don't mind your anime a bit on the wierd psychological side. Two episodes into this and I have no clue what's going on, but I sure am curious to find out.

im enjoying this season of Anime, its not the best but I would have to say its pretty good. Myself;Yourself has exceeded my expectations. I originally wasn't planning on watching this show, but now i cant get enough of it. Clannad as expected has a good sense of humor and a good storyline so far, im really enjoying it.

Based on what i have read many people have not really liked Kimikiss personally i think its an enjoyable show, since it really doesn't focus on only 1 character. but on many relationships, so in a way there are 3 main characters with three different interconnected stories going on.

As for Gundam 00, i've watched a few episodes but i haven't found it to be anything extraordinary. i'll probably keep on watching it, but its not a show that i am desperately waiting for the next episode to come out.

Rental Magica i just couldnt find very interesting. as for the other shows this season i am on a kind of wait and see. its still a little early for me to decide which ones to watch and which to let go. but this season has not been dissapointing so far.

A lot of people seem to think this season is pretty weak, but if you really look at it it's not THAT different from the previous season (though we don't have the awesome Gurren-Lagaan). Most people have 3 or 4 series that have good potential and seem to be doing well, Clannad is pretty good (event though I really hate dating sims, I'm still shuddering at some of the really corny bits, though they're usually diffused). Kaiji is also pretty gripping and ghost hound has real potential, and Gundam 00 is also going well, with minami-ke or moyashimon or whatever rounding things out.

And really if you have 3 or 4 good shows can you really complain?

Though I have to admit I would like it if there were just a bit less romance shows, but last season wasn't so different

Yeah there are a lot of romance shows this season, even Shakugan no Shana II has more romance than action elements this time around, at least for now. SnSII has to be one of my favorites - I liked the first season better, but the second season isn't so bad. I really love the music.

I like Clannad more than expected. I thought it was gonna be another Air or Kanon, but Clannad was more funny and less serious (but it gets dramatic sometimes - good drama) than those two so I like it because of that.

Minami-ke is absolutely hilarious. I think the best and funniest episode so far was episode 5, watch and you'll find out why.

Ef - A Tale of Memories is kinda deep and a little sad, but it has a nice interesting story. Plus the visuals are fascinating to watch.

Kimikiss I didn't like at first, I thought it was gonna be another harem series, but it's not. It's almost like a high school Honey and Clover.

I surprisingly like Gundam 00 - it's surprising because it's the first Gundam I decided to watch since high school. I heard it's different from other Gundam series, although it is similar to Gundam Wing (which I liked).

And finally, Myself;Yourself. It seems like an innocent romance comedy anime, but some people say it's a lot similar to School Days, and I don't know if that's a good or bad thing since I haven't seen School Days yet.

Seriously? School Days? I hope not. I liked School Days but that's because I got pretty much exactly what I expected from it. I'm not that far into Myself; Yourself so this wouldn't be a concern for a while but if it ended the same way School Days did I think I'd cry. Again, the School Days ending delivered what everyone was clamouring for in spades but for another series to replicate that without everyone waiting for it would end up being pretty repulsive.

Am I the only one watching Shugo Chara! ?

Its a silly little syrupy sweet monster-of-the-week (so far) magical girl show, but Im rather enjoying it.... its a delightfully fun little romp, and Im rather smitten with the characters.
The animation is fairly nice too, very pretty designs and it dosnt -- so far -- seem like its getting sloppy anywhere. A really catchy opening song, too. It isnt my usual style of show, but Im really rather liking it.

The reason people like me have been complaining isn't because this was the worst season on record, it's not. However, it is pretty bad for a primary season (being fall and spring) in the sense that there are no great shows going on right now.

Think back over the last year and a half, we had Haruhi, Mushishi, Code Geass, Gurren-Lagann, both Black Lagoons, Death Note, Guardian of the Sacred Spirit, Lucky Star, and Ouran High School Host Club, and those are just the ones that come to mind immediately. All of those were hits, and if I remember correctly, all of them started in either fall or spring seasons. That means that 3 or so extremely popular top-notch shows started each of those seasons. Right now though, I don't feel that a single one of the shows coming out is comparable to any one of the shows I listed above, so that's basically where my beef comes from.
