some of the character designs are pretty off model and the games art is better than the anime's flat character designs.

The designer is not very neat, but the theme and the animation gave me a good feeling. The theme messes with dreams, which reminds me a lot Sandman.

Reminds me of Persona. Hopefully this is better than the terribly dull adaptations we got of Persona 3 - 5

I guess I wasn't the only one who had this thought. Seeing how each episode will be handled by different directors, I kind of wonder whether it was intentional.
