I'm disappointed that the Robot aren't key-framed, couldn't they have got some of the people who worked on IBO to help animate this.

Really wish that would've been the case.
I'm... quite disappointed. It's just a 30-second teaser, I know, but if all the robot fights are going to look like this I really can't say I'm excited anymore. I do hope it'll still turn out well since I do like the original series a lot (just a few episodes away from finishing it).

I kind of agree with Miyazaki, CG animation like this is an insult.
If you're going to emulate hand drawn animation ... why not make a hand drawn animated movie? It's just so cold. Like you're removing the artists from the art. Yes, of course I know CG animation requires teams of animators but it's not the same. You won't get segments where you can say without question, person xyz animated it.

Hell no. IBO had 'quality' out the ass. The only real good animation in that entire show was probably the Hashmal fight.

It being cold kind of makes sense, considering the plot of this, especially if you saw the leaked footage featuring Mizuki's new version of the song. CG works a lot better in this case, considering how vicious Kouji's going to be this time around (using the Iron Cutters as a melee weapon instead of ranged, remembering the Southern Cross Knives, etc). Heck, this might be the most vicious we've seen Kouji fighting wise in an animated work. Yeah, ZERO technically exists but that's restricted to video games and manga at the moment.

I thought this was going to be full 3DCG like the Captain Harlock and Saint Seiya movies. The 2D aesthetic works here I guess, not cinematic quality but whatever I can make due with average animation as long as the script delivers.

... I don't think it was that bad. It was different from what I expected. But then again, I guess I wasn't expecting much.
In the end, I'd still be interested in seeing this.

I thought it was going to be a photorealistic CGI movie, like what they did on Gaiking, that Gaiking clip have the best CGI use than any other Nippon movies out there.

You guys don't know what you're talking about, watch it again. It showcase a far more superior CG than IBO, even when compare to rebuild Evangelion movies or any Orange CG works. That's how good it is. And ya'll call it like it's a bad thing.
Again, Miyazaki didn't said that.

Look for the leaked version, it 's actually much longer and showcases the cg better.

And my hopes have been crushed, I guess you can't ask Toei to properly animate anything these days, they go straight to CG.

The animation for IBO was really good, sure it was not constantly good all the time, but when you are doing elaborate mech fights in 2D you can't expect it to be. Most of the time it looks really good https://sakugabooru.com/post/show/32158

As stated before the mechs in IBO are key-framed, the only thing that was CG was the ships. https://twitter.com/G1_BARI/status/681031208432603137
I thought they were key-framed in Rebuild of Evamgelion https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/45/74/66/45746654bf0babecdcaafe380c8f22db.gif

I agree, I loved the mecha animation in IBO. Definitely not consistently good throughout the entire series, but most it I thought looked great.

I'm more or less trying to say I'm just disappointed the mech fights are not done in 2D. Sure the CG can look fine and all (it does), no problem, but my preference will always go to 2D. That's just me I guess.
After watching the leaked footage I do have a bit more faith in the movie. I'm still gonna see it.

I looked it up and... well, yeah, it looks alright actually. Not great, but definitely above anything from Polygon or Sanzigen.

I think the CG looks good, but the redesign will turn some people off. With that said, there are other reasons to be excited for this movie. For once, it's actually a sequel to the original Mazinger Z (Probably a combination of both manga and anime) and not just a reboot like Mazinkaiser and Shin Mazinger. We're not sure if it's including Great Mazinger and Grendizer in that continuity but either way, the fact that they're willing to explore beyond the original is what makes this project interesting.
I also like the modern look of the characters. It's not something we see often with this IP.

A Mazinger Z movie... finally I'll just take it as an awesome prospect, the fan webs in Latinamerica, Spain and Italy are aflame with the movie. Koji as a Scientist in the series he went abroad to study Ufology with Sayaka and as some stated above What happened with Great Mazinger and Grendizer?, Mikene and the Vegans?. What up with the New Garada Kikaiju?
I'm just pumped and we get a real Mazinger Z movie, not a Red Baron/Taiwanese/German packaged and Spain added Mazinger Z music mashup
