If his new game doesnt pan out he could definitely make it as a film critic, this was a great analysis.

I'd say this was a very apt critique by Kojima, and I completely agree with it. I feel a little bad for the director and cast, but this movie had basically no chance of being successful. There simply isn't a large enough audience for GitS, and the other controversies around it didn't help it any, either. I doubt this movie will even be a cult success, and it's hard to see it becoming a financial success, either.

and yet another thing that is problematic about the film: it cannot justify its existence. It doesn't do anything that other films and other installments of GitS haven't done already

I'm imagining the biggest flipping smirk on his face as he's throwing in all of these hilarious references. You could even say Sanders failed to bring the "ghost" out of its "shell".

It's has it's flaws so its average but the film is seriously not bad. It's a good watch and the visuals are amazing

they overspent, it's as simple as that, all you need is tom cruise did well because it had an apropiate movie for an "anime" adaptation.

It's not interesting enough to be cult success, which is another part of the problem. The movie doesn't have much to say so you're not going to get people who like movies with real depth to them, it doesn't have enough else to make it interesting to the mass audience. It doesn't have the charm to capture the mass audience at any rate, at best it was going to be a cult hit.

...I wouldn't chalk that up to the film's success given how spotty Cruise's track record had been up to that point.

Considering the fact that Kojima basically lifted his own "scene for scene recreations" of the 1995 film for his 1998 Metal Gear Solid, it's very satisfying hearing his acknowledgement of the series.
Seriously, Solid Snake was practically a genderbent Major especially with his grey sneaking suit, optic-camo, infrarouge goggles, use of a FA-MAS (similar in design to Kusanagi's CZN-M22), vast knowledge of world affairs and military jargon, and of course a famous man-versus-tank scene. Kojima pulled no punches to Kokaku Kidotai references. Even his earlier Snatcher and Policenauts seem to take inspiration from Shirow's Dominion series, among 80s Hollywood films and sci-fi novels.
