I just binge watched this last week and was kind of mad I left it on my to watch list for so long. Even tho I figured out the killer almost immediately it was still an insanely good ride, I usually always enjoy this authors works.
Can't wait for his next anime adaption |

I feel like the only person who liked the killer reveal. Did it seem very obvious? Yeah, but at the same time, I've seen so many shows/books/etc that have had "obvious" villains only for the author to throw in a twist right at the end that explains all that "obvious" behavior and so it turns out to be someone else. Personally, I found that all the obvious evidence being actual for real evidence and not a red herring really refreshing for a change, and considering the person's good relationship with Satoru and the rest, it made it easy to understand why they might be missing/ignoring those hints. I mean, throughout the show I kept thinking "it can't be that person - it's too obvious" and looking for any other hint that would make a twist later satisfying, but as the end got closer and I couldn't really see any, I just assumed the author would pull the twist out of nowhere, and that, to me, is far more unsatisfying than having the obvious killer actually just be the killer.
It's not that I can't understand why other people don't like it - a younger, less jaded me probably would have been upset too. But I guess I'm just so used to expecting writers to pull something simply for shock value that I really enjoyed it when all the hints actually really did mean something. |

For those of you wondering how the manga's 2nd half differed from the anime:
spoiler[Satoru’s hospital recovery arc goes on for much longer, largely consisting of Satoru's introspections on his actions so far. Airi makes 2 appearances there, (one to save him from paparazzi, two when Satoru wants to thank her for believing in him), although Satoru never gets to exchange words with her. The manga goes into more detail on Yashiro's past - his thuggish older brother was raping elementary school girls by forcing Yashiro to lure said girls to their home's storehouse where he waited. This was where Yashiro started to learn various pickup skills to attract girls into following him + comforting them later. Yashiro also had a psychotic streak of his own, likening himself to the Buddha in the "Spider's thread" story with the power to determine another's fate. Eventually things come to a head when the brother accidentally suffocates a girl to death and hides the body. Yashiro decides the brother is a liability and murders him, staging it to look like he hung himself from guilt. He is never suspected. Growing up, Yashiro reaquires a taste for murdering little girls using his charm and skills, and even dates a psychiatric counselor so he can directly learn ways to improve his killings. He later kills her when she starts suspecting him. In the finale, Yashiro stalks Satoru to a hospital-organized rehab camp by a lake, disgusing himself as a volunteer. He attempts to frame Satoru for another murder by drugging a patient and leaving her in a leaking boat to look like Satoru did it. The final confrontation took place on a suspension bridge atop the lake.] In an interview with Erased's anime director, Tomohiko Ito, and mangaka Sanbe Kei, this came up:

Thought it was crap, personally. To pick on one point, I found the midway time jump less a way to establish the stakes for his second attempt, but just proof the author was quite happy to use "because time travel" whenever they wrote themselves into a corner or for the sake of shock value. Oh you think he's going so save her? Haha! Now she's dead! Just kidding he gets another go because saving the little girl actually being a red herring would be too cruel.
Wasn't helped by the director having Satoru jump to the past while falling head first off a balcony, but jump back at some point in the future, having apparently both not been injured & shaken the cops to boot. Pulpy thriller junk that far from being too short could quite easily have been condensed into a two hour movie. Indeed doing so would probably have been for the best if catching the killer was what it's meant to be about. But everybody lives & Satoru still gets a teenage girl & a successful manga for being awesome, so yay. |

It was a good drama, mediocre thriller and a bad detective. I liked the first half, but there was a much better show running in the same season - Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu.

I really enjoyed this show too but I also felt the second half was rushed especially when spoiler[He was in the coma and woke up]
My biggest issue was the culprit I guessed early on and nothing worse than knowing the whole time. I think the author could've threw in a twist or two so give light to a second suspect that was plausible. Or as people above said that there was another meaning to going in the past. I also wasn't as happy with the romance aspect, but that was the least of my worries. Overall it was a really good show. |

I think they really should have completely dropped the premise of going back in the past and just keep it as Satoru being a kid the entire time. Most problem could have been easily forgiven if he really was just a kid. You couldn't really expect a kid to figure out who the killer was or how to save someone, but as an adult Satoru is just really stupid (he routinely get outsmart by an actual kid). Especially when spoiler[he discover the rape kit and doesn't even bother calling the cop or when he though saving Kayo just meant not letting her get kidnap on the specific day she was gonna be kidnaped].
It would have been easy to adapt too, the adult portion bring absolutely nothing to the story and Satoru never really use his power during the actual story except for the one time he goes back again to redo everything. Plus adult Satoru was such a giant loser it would have been much nicer to have a kid full of possibility has a character, and the hint of romance wouldn't have been as creepy. |

I bough the two Aniplex USA sets and rewatched the series with the solid but not great dub. I found the show better this time around, was not upset with the villain reveal anymore and, like the review says, the conclusion is largely satisfying. The structure of the show could have been better, but I still think that ERASED is worth watching.

The only thing that hurt this series was the episode count. Had they have given it 22-24 episodes it would have been a huge hit.

BdgIM was great until spoiler[Kayo ended up with Hiromi]. I was pissed off beyond belief. The completionist in me had to force me to finish watching it.

It tried to be too many things all at once in a 12 episode Anime also I'm not a mystery fan and even had the reveal of who the killer spoiled for me in a discussion of episode two on 4chan. I ended up watching most of the series hoping the series wouldn't be that obvious and honestly it was.
Also I found Akemi Hinazuki to be one of the most ludicrous portrayals of an abusive parent in recent memory just a touch of subtlety would have been better than what we got in a word overwrought. |

I think the opposite. ERASED could have been a great 2 hours movie if it focused on Kayo and Satoru's mom, and it dropped the Airi arc and other unnecessary stuff. |

This show was among my favourites of last year. I found the premise and story very interesting and I actually gave a damn about the characters.

I felt like this show went downhill in the second half to the point that, while I still thought it was well worth watching once, it wasn't something I needed to buy.
