Oh wow, this is a huge loss to the anime industry, I hope they open up again or the current staff make a new studio.

This is disappointing. They had some amazing art.

A part that made Grmgar so great to me were the backgrounds. They're gorgeous to look at. A real shame this had to happen, I wish the best of health to the director.

This pretty much crushed my hopes for a second Grimgar season.

Such an amazing studio that produces amazing backgrounds and stuff. This is a huge loss indeed. I hope we will see this in a new form. I wish the director to have a speedy recovery.

While the art style may not be the same, they could always get another studio. Also, just because it is shutting down, that doesn't mean it will stay that way. It could always re-brand itself under a new name in the near future.

This is the art studio, not the animation studio. There could still be a second season.

Oh no, their backgrounds were so beautiful, my main interest in Grmgar is the background art.

Apparently a substantial amount of the backgrounds they produced were by this guy himself too. Sounds like he was just taking on way too much work and being too hands on. Hopefully he recovers and is able to relax for a few years.

I don't think this would really be a factor. even if the studio closes most of the staff will still remain in the industry, they can either be recruited by another studio or maybe even be contracted directly by the animation studio for the second season if it does come up. that said grimgar sold average 4k per volume which while far from being a hit is decent enough to incentivize a second season

A shame a studio with such a history has to close its doors. And one person kept it all together.

Hopefully the artists can regroup as a new studio.

Yeah. They really did amazing work seeing that list of some of their projects and I didn't realize they've been going for a long time with stuff like Lodoss and Totoro.

Along with Grimgar, Terror in Resonance was another recent one I though had absolutely stunning backgrounds too.

Their works is really beautiful. They even put more effort for background on short anime like Aiura.

And yes, this is a huge loss indeed.

Very sad news. Sad Atelier BWCA has produced some really amazing artworks. Here's hoping Mr. Kaneko-san will be back in good health after rest.
