Not really saying much. Sounds much more like a half-hearted denial. Which means the original story still might be true, but that Kodansha is not ready to say anything.

At best, it could say that they're talking, but nobody's said anything yet. And we've heard THAT before.
(The "Right after they finish Akira" made me think it was a Fan-Fakie rumor, but given that, like the DBZ movie that became DB:Evolution, AoT is one of the only anime shows old-fogey studios have heard of, it's technically not out of the realm of imagination.)
