I certainly thought Satoshi retired (he's got to be 30 by now, so getting married [to Serena] and getting a desk job somewhere is not out of the question) when the new visuals on Sun & Moon came out, replaced by a doppelganger.

The human characters look like 0 effort was put into drawing them. Maybe they're trying to make it so that children can easily draw the main characters, but I think it's doing a serious disservice to the series. The last few seasons look incredibly polished in comparison.
Change is fine, and all, in a series. Put Ash in an Hawaiian shirt. Give him a new haircut or some contact lenses....but to so radically change the design? No. I have little desire to watch this season. |

The strongest impression I had from this article was "Wow, that dance scene with Serena and her pokemon is absolutely gorgeous!"
More on topic: One thing I do not quite get is why the rounder race and (granted slightly more realistic) eye size and placement are necessary for a wider range of expressions. I guess it is easier to imagine the new face contorting into odd faces? (Something I noticed with the 2005 Doraemon series, particularly with Doraemon himself) It would be very interesting to explore why (or maybe there is already an article on it?). |

Pokemon these days has everything you want if you are into moe/waifu culture. The only thing that really needs changes now is the protagonist in the anime, they need to find a way to ditch Ash (I heard the anime would end if he's gone, it needs to be rebooted with a new protagonist).

I'm back into Pokemon. Got a refurbished Nintendo 2DS and pre-owned Omega Ruby from GameStop.
I don't know. Ash kinda looks a bit close like Taichi from Digimon Adventure Tri. I don't see why the hate of the new Ash. |

I think they should have just done away with the Z-shaped lines on Ash/Satoshi's cheeks instead of drawing them so big that they now look like a puberty moustache.

But why give him a mustache? It just make him look like a teenager/young adult still wearing child cloth (not sure if it make him more like someone with diminished mental capacity or child rapist in becoming).

Of course, developing new stuff is great. But its still damn ugly compared to all the years before. I mean look at Sarinas dancing. That Scene was so crazy cool, i love that gif as well. So well done.
If the Creators overall were just more creative and didn't put Satoshi in an un-aging Body, years ago, a look-change would be more appreciated. But no. Satoshi has now a complete goofy kid appearance again and Pikachu who sould be Level over 9000 is again, Level 5. |
