Figured it would happen eventually. I just wonder why it wasn't at the same time as the rest of the Haruhi related announcements?

This is one release that I hope they keep simple. I'd actually be upset if they give the film some sort of LE that doesn't completely fit in the Collector's Edition box. Keep the goodies on the discs... |

Heard this was good, hope they'll stream it on their site! As a casual Haruhi fan, do I have to re-watch the show for the movie to make sense, or is basic knowledge enough?

Probably because they had to wait for Bandai's right to the film to lapse. great to hear they are releasing it probably soon. [edit: corrected the licence holder] Last edited by Vannil on Tue Nov 29, 2016 1:39 am; edited 1 time in total |

Wait, I thought they'd already licensed it? If FUNimation didn't, then who dubbed it?

Bandai got Bang Zoom to dub the series and the movie. Good to hear it being official. I got rid of my copy of the movie two years ago in preparation for this re-release. I anticipate that it'll fit nicely inside the rest of the Haruhi contents in my box set. |

I guess my English Blu-Ray isn't worth $200 anymore...

I was hoping that Funimation would eventually pick up the movie since I missed getting it the first time around.

I would recommend seeing the Melancholy Arc - S1 1-6 - and you definitely need to see "Bamboo Rhapsody" episode from S2. Beyond that, there are minor references to other events but a quick episode summary refresher on Wikipedia will be just fine for that. Do that and you'll both understand the film and be able to fully appreciate the stuff its doing with its characters. Hope this helps. |

I already have my copy from its original release, but recommend fans of the show (who've at least seen Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody from season 2) check it out if they haven't already. They should release it in December, though! Come on. It's a Christmas movie... sorta.

Hopefully they already had licensed it, but the announcement was held until the materials had been delivered. |

A friend of mine and me were just talking about this last night and how the ultimate boxset did not have The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, but had everything else. Either way, I'm happy that it finally will be coming out with this as a re-release.

This movie is the only thing I've ever paid full MSRP for on Right Stuf. At the time, Bandai USA had recently announced it was closing, so I was going through and picking up any of their titles that I wanted since license rescues aren't guaranteed, they can take years when they do happen, and once the retailers sold out, prices would jump up considerably.
