Never been to an anime-only con. Been to plenty of gaming cons, though...

Other then the fact that one has to do with anime and one's a gaming, is there any real difference them?

Um, no, but you could afford a plane ticket. I've flown across country for cons before. So clearly, it's a valid question.

People are much more likely to cos-play as characters from games and RPGs than anime...
As to which is more successful, I leave it to the jury to decide....
Now, I do dress up for the Rocky Horror Picture Show.... but not as a woman. Never as a woman.

And my eyes are still burning.
anyways i've see some really good mech cosumes but they involve alot of cutting and glueing of boxes and not to mention that they have to fit just right or it's imposible to move without destroying them. I would sugest something simple and cost efective.
Don't go all out it usually cost to much.[/list]

I will forever cherish the image of the triangular angel chasing Gendo Ikari down the halls of AFO one year I went...

Mechas (for me) are hard just to DRAW, yet alone assemble it into a carefully made costume.

the ability to draw or know someone who can and is willing to draw the parts, the ability to put said parts together, and the fit of the finished suit can all be sumed up into time and effort.
And thats why people don't usually make mechs time and effort are the most reqired things to put in and if you don't have time or won't give the effort it isn't worth it, or you lose interest and it was a waste from the start.
Go with something simple.

Maybe I'll just go as a neko, I already got the cat ears, the tail's buried under something in a ten mile radius. Maybe a punk neko. I'd do the the whole school girl thing, but, I lack the sewing skills to do it, okay, I don't have any sewing skills, oh well.

Well, if you want to look like almost every girl there. There's always a lot of people at cons who just pop on cat ears and leave it at that. You'd be better off not cosplaying at all.
