The guy that Felix knocks out is named Ketty and he is revealed to be a member of the Witch’s Cult. Ketty already appeared in episode 14 ( Around 21:25 ) and had a central role there. For once he and Otto are actually close buddies but Otto doesn’t know of his aqcuittance with the Cult. He was the one leading Subaru to Otto and he was also the one telling Otto that if he accepted Subaru’s offer he „would find his answers“. This means that Subaru’s meeting with Otto and his arrival at the mansion could be all planned by Petelgeuse in advance which strengthens the theory about the gospel being able to predict the future. The fact that Ketty was with the merchants all along explains why they suddenly protest against evacuating the villagers.

I am not entirely sure what happened in episode 23, but I was pleased with it. I look forward to the final 2 episodes; I hope they stick the landing.

spoiler[Since Theron is ALSO reviewing Alderamin of the Sky and a veteran guy dies in the latest episode of that one], I'm 99% sure that's what he was referring to.

This also marks the second new series I've seen in the last few days where a strong older warrior gets done in by an underhanded stab. That seems to be the way you kill warriors past a certain age in anime.

Okay I laughed at this. So true.

I don't think it was Ia alone; if it had been, why would Julius ask how he broke free of the spell, and why bother showing us Subaru's poorly reasoned internal monologue? I think Subaru had to work in conjunction with the spirit to break the illusion. Regardless, though, Subaru's reasoning was complete nonsense.

I don't see what nonsense about it. He was clearly speculating on the cause and found his idea on the cause reasonable enough since he's lived village long enough to recognize such things like fauna. Regardless he didn't break free the spell on his own, la was what got him out. The anime was pretty direct about it. Julius was simply confirming his release.

I'm so depressed that this will be ending soon, granted this series has made me plenty depressed as well. What's going to suck is that I have a feeling it's going to be a "continued in the light novel" ending, and as far as I know the translation for the light novel is a bit behind the anime.

They got me with that twist even though, yeah with hindsight it should have been obvious. The real question is where will he respawn and will he be normal or have 'Sloth' travel back with him? That would be a kick in the stomach.

Awww, now why would you have to go and mention that? This episode set my emotions all over the place without bringing in another anime's sad moments Crying or Very sad

I actually thought it was because it was a blue flower, and blue flowers are, obviously, impossible to come by in nature. Somehow the idea of an aggressive plant existing in a magical world just seems more plausible than a blue plant. Regardless, even though the details on how magic functions in this world are sketchy, the impression I came away with is that even if a person under an illusion spell recognizes the illusion, they can't break free on their own without a) significant magical power, or b) external help, hence why Julius had to connect everyone's gates and amplify their magic with the spirits. Kind of the opposite of how Naruto handles breaking genjutsu techniques.

Honestly, I was more shocked by the saboteur merchants than the body-snatching bit, since I was pretty sure that was how Betelgeuse was getting around. What continues to confuse me is the insistence on only five fingers; last I counted, I still had ten. Laughing

Seeing Emilia fight was a nice, nice moment. It's been a while since we've had the chance to see her on the offensive, and it was a real high point for me. I was curious about her tears at the end; we've never seen her with the intent to kill--she seems to favor immobilization more, but I also thought it might be relief at being able to help the villagers, no matter how the scorned her before.

Veeery curious to see where the next respawn point puts us. We've only got two episodes left, so here's to going out with a bang!

A comment on youtube brought up the beginning of Ep 18 where Puck killed all of the witch's cult along with Betelgeuse. Right as Subaru was dying he said he heard this laugh before, it's the voice of the man he's hated but then cuts to him and he realizes he's the one laughing.

Won't lie, sorta disappointed with myself for not catching that one. Definitely showed us that he was bound to get possessed by sloth.

What color are the flowers on your planet? Smile On ours, there are many colored flowers that include the Bluebell, Lupine and Iris which are famously blue (high reflectivity from 450nm-500nm wavelength) and grow in the wild. Subaru's reasoning flower-wise was soundly deductive in that since the plants he/we observed in that world were identical to Earth, the possibility of a tentacle-monster flower being the lone exception and would be present to attack him at this time of struggle against magic-wielders was zero or at most very unlikely. He seems to have reasoned that Patrasche being "frozen" along with the flower's appearance was evidence that he was under an enchantment, though another possibility I and doubtless others would have found equally or more plausible is that the ground-dragon and monster flower were results of malevolent magic used by his enemies. I'd guess that is why his reasoning seems off.

Whoa, that just blew my mind if that was foreshadowing.

You're welcome to your opinion, of course. I've explained in pretty excruciating detail now why it was silly, not gonna belabor it with more posts unless some new point or counterargument is raised.

I thought she was just overwhelmed to finally experience a moment of gratitude and appreciation from the villagers; I hadn't even considered that she might be crying because she had to (try to) kill Beetelgeuse.

Yeah the first time around I thought it was all part of Subaru's breakdown but now that I've seen it again, it definitely looks like a moment of foreshadowing.

Yeah, that's a great observation. I'd totally forgotten about that scene.

You're missing context if you think that the villagers were expressing gratitude and appreciation. Nothing in their expressions in the shots right before she starts crying indicates that, and the tone set by the music at that point is grim rather than triumphant. It's far more likely that it's either because she finally had to kill someone, because the villagers still don't seem to trust her, or because she realizes that a lot of havoc was committed on the village because of her. Upon rewatching that scene a couple more times, the latter option now seems most likely to me, as she distinctly looks around before we see the tears.
