Hi everyone! I work at Japanime Publishing Company/Manga University in Tokyo and we’re finishing up a book called “The Manga Cookbook.” It’s a cookbook that introduces simple Japanese recipes with manga illustrations done by Chihiro Hattori. Throughout the book we reference different manga where you can find characters eating/cooking the recipes in the book, but we are looking for a few more references and would like your help!
The recipes we’re looking for references for are:
Apples, eggs, and sausages cut into animal shapes
(like rabbits, octopi, etc.)
Rice, riceballs (onigiri), and rice burgers
Bento or lunch boxes
Oshinko/Pickles
Miso Soup
Tamago yaki (Japanese style omelet)
Sushi
Ton Katsu (deep-fried pork cutlet)
Karaage (Japanese fried chicken)
Teriyaki chicken
Yakitori (grilled chicken on a stick)
Beef Bowl
Okonomiyaki
Udon Noodles
Dango (rice dumplings)
Red Bean Paste (anko)
All we need is the name of the manga, the volume and/or chapter number, and the page number if you have it.
Thanks very much for your help!

Might want to add cornets from Lucky Star episode 1.
Bento/lunch box umm Sister princess 2 or 3 and 19. Appearances in Repure ep 4 for sure.
Lucky Star manga should also have cornets early on.

Hopefully there's a manga counterpart for all of these (and I mean the food; I know the series themselves have manga counterparts).

Gosh right now all I can think of is the bento box from that one volume of MPD Psycho, but er yeah you probably won't want to use that one.
I'll do a little research and get back to yah.

Okonomiyaki is Ukyo's specialty in Ranma 1/2. Unfortunately, I don't know the exact volume she appears.

Croquettes are easy: Honey and Clover!
Sushi: Genshiken volume 5, with Saki and Madarame in a sushi restaurant.
Tonkatsu: Not entirely sure, but Ichigo 100%, in the first third of the series, in preparation for high school entrance exams.
Okonomiyaki: Parfait Tic, unsure about location; school festival arc has numerous okonomiyaki references, unsure about volume number.
I'll post later if I remember more.

I know the Azumanga Daioh manga has a scene with Bento.
I'll look it up later ^^.

Yeah, I know Azumanga definitely has some food-related stuff, provided that it's in the manga as well as the anime (which I feel fairly safe in assuming is true).
Fushigi Yuugi has food appear a decent amount, because the protagonist is a bit of a glutton. I don't remember what food off-hand however.

Riceballs are referenced several times in Fruits Basket, the best example probably being when Tohru and Kyo make them in volume 2. xxxHOLiC's Watanuki cooks as a hobby (as well as part of his payment to Yuko) and makes a number of dishes throughout the series. He takes pride in being a phenomenal cook, and at a bare minimum he makes a bento to share with whoever he's having lunch with (usually Himawari and/or Domeki) practically every volume.

For miso soup, I know I remember Kyo from Fruits Basket (talking about food he dislikes) that "Miso is fine in soup, but not in anything else." That's probably not the best example, though...

Yeah, that's when Shigure is rattling off all the food Kyo whines about. When he gets to miso, Kyo protests that miso is alright as long as it's in soup form. I don't think Tohru actually makes it, though - which is why I didn't mention it either.
