Some older CCTV system still use VHS as their storage method. I'm assuming most CCTV converted into HDD/digital storage, it's not surprise the market demand for VHS has decline drastically. |

Sure, and I still have a VHS to DVD recorder. The tapes are commercial anime shows. I long since copied them to DVD but keep the tapes for backup purposes. |

I have a Sony deck, and a Panasonic HDD/VCR/DVD combi which I used to back up all of my tapes to disc. Almost all. I had one home recorded tape of the Babylon 5 pilot which for some reason the broadcaster transmitted with a PPV flag, so I just couldn't back that tape up. For some reason I thought that the DVD release had the Christopher Franke (Tenchi Muyo) score instead of the original Stuart Copeland temp track. But when I finally got around to getting the DVD collection last month, it had the temp track. So I can dump that final tape. Kept all of my anime tapes for archival purposes, as well as the original Star Wars trilogy. As for watching VHS, Would you believe that I'm currently watching Star Trek Voyager on VHS? I went through a phase of upgrading all my Trek collection, got the movies and the original series on Blu, TNG and DS9 on DVD, and I threw out all the videotapes, but when it came to Voyager, it's too crap a show to double-dip on. I've dug out the Sony deck, and I'm giving the show one final watch before binning the tapes. And I've learned that it's a good thing that DVD came along, otherwise studios would be facing a class action from disgruntled VHS owners. They really cheaped out on pre-recorded stock. It's not like your TDK or BASF blank tape quality, they used the lowest bidder for their tapes, and the lubrication that keeps the reels turning has all evaporated, and the reels tend to stick during playback, resulting in distorted picture, sound drop-outs, and a godawful squeal from the machine while playing. |

I have a VCR, but I looked around for tapes recently, and I think anything I might still have is at my parents' house. Any anime tapes I had were replaced with DVDs a while ago, which wasn't too hard since it was just DBZ. |

Now it's truly an end of the era of the VHS. The VCRs will now be just mere paperweights as a result.

Wow, had no idea vhs is still selling on Japan. 750,000 in this age is a lot of units sold for this old Technology. I wonder if vhs is still selling on another zone of the world...

I still have one working VCR. Actually it is a combination VCR, DVD player, and FM radio.
I recently threw away two VCR's that had been in storage and were discovered to be non-functional. I have a box with about 20 tapes of episodes of "Mew Mew Power" and "Magical Do Re Mi" that I taped from Saturday morning TV. I have probably not watched them since they were recorded. I should probably try some of them, just to see if they are still good. I also have a few professional tapes, some anime, that I should check. |
