How different is the Gunbuster movie from the OVA?

One thing to keep in mind about FUNI's release of Date A Live II is, that unlike its Japanese counterpart, this isn't the DC version with added scenes.

How much and what kind of fanservice does Date a Live have?
Is there any nudity? Any ecchi content? Do the serious parts get seriously serious? Or does it seem more like a parody of serious shows? I know that is a tough question because it requires you to judge what the writers were intending. Most of the harem comedies that I have seen, at least those with supernatural elements, get serious near the end. But it seems to me that the serious element is just another gag. Of course that is just my impression, I do not know what the writers were thinking. Examples of those would be Cat Planet Cuties, Girls Bravo, Heaven's Lost Property, and High School DxD. I enjoyed all of those enough to watch them several times. I actually do not like comedies that get seriously serious. I definitely prefer those where I can at least believe that the serious events are just another, if somewhat different, part of the comedy. Really!? That sucks. If it was, it would have gotten a better review. |

It doesn't have any nudity. There is cleavage and suggestive outfits, but you don't really see anything. There is a joke about that in the commentary track because the series ended up being banned in China, despite being one of the more subdued harem shows Funimation has worked on. Ecchi content? Plenty, though you won't see clothes shredding or anything like that. As for getting serious, it varies. Mostly, it stays light, but it does use more serious elements as part of a larger plot, which I doubt we'll actually see play out. |

So is the Gunbuster compilation the first from Gunbuster vs Diebuster?

Pretty much, it's a longer light novel series, 14 volumes and counting, so we'd need a few more seasons to see how it goes... Unfortunately the light novel series hasn't been licensed (Yen Press, Seven Seas, wink, wink) but 13 volumes have been translated thus far by fans. A major translation repository got DMCA'd over it during volume 12, but the translations shouldn't be too hard to find nonetheless. |

DC version? your saying there's a director's cut version?? if so then would have made a difference? cause i am sure those added scenes are probably things that wasnt allowed on JP TV but got edited out. too bad its not there. its probably that funi dont have the license for the DC version. |

As far as I know, they're scenes from the LNs that were cut from the episodes because inclyding them would have made the episodes longer than they're allowed to be for a TV airing (this limit obviously doesn't exist in disc format) |

Everything is explained in this thread. It's the forum thread for the Date A Live II BD+DVD review written by Theron Martin a few weeks back here on ANN. I'll quote Shiroi Hane's post from that same thread, itself quoting from Funimation's site;

Well, at least the Funimation version is the uncut version. Guess it is fansubs for the Director's Cut.

I don't know about the second season, but someone did upload the additional scenes from the first season on YouTube. The first season had significantly less additional scenes, but it did get a director's cut and we didn't get it either... |

As a fan of DAL, I'm disappointed that Funi weren't about to get the DC releases for either season. I held off getting the first season, hoping they'd get the DC version. Since that never eventuated, steered clear of season 2's release.
Fingers crossed we do see someone license the series. I prefer my novels/manga in print, so I've no interest in reading DAL digitally. |

It would not surprise me to find that Funimation did not get the Director's Cut because it was not offered for sale. This gives the Japanese vendor something that cannot be reverse imported.
