Shocking Pink Girl Momoko (OAV) Genres: comedy, erotica Plot Summary: Kentaro, your basic salaryman, co-habits an apartment with his old study mate Haruo. He's engaged to his boss's daughter, the selfish Reiko. While waiting on Reiko to meet up up with him he comes across the quirky Momoko, an aspiring actress who sees herself as the future Japanese Marilyn Monroe. Kentaro accidentally gets her fired from her side-job and Momoko knows a perfect way for him to make it up to her: she decides to move in with him and provide for all his and her needs. Things get more complicated when Momoko gets a job with Kentaro's company. [EDIT: Changed the title pic, so as not to horizontally over-stretch the screen. Also added this to the Discussion Index. -TK] |

This is a weird one. While there are enough sex scenes in it that I can only imagine it was marketed as a porn, it doesn't seem to take itself like one?
There is a surprising amount of character development. The music is really catchy. The main character's voice actress had a career already when she went into this -- she was the voice of Rally Vincent in Riding Bean, among other things. The character designer went on to do the design and animation direction for Fushigi Yugi, and many of the InuYasha movies. Maybe the ANN Encyclopedia is deceiving me, but it looks like everyone used their real names? I don't really know what to make of this... is it a real-life version of K.C. Green's "Smegma Princess"? |

Strangely enough, there don't seem to be any screencaps of this online other than the sex scenes... really a shame.
OP song on YouTube, "Make It Happen" by the talented Saeko Higuchi, with support from Mitsuko Komuro, who was responsible for City Hunter's catchy "Get Wild" ending (for those 80s anime lovers out there). Solid use of character design -- for instance, two different ways of looking slightly bored: Slightly bored and dismayed while working a vaguely demeaning part-time job... ...and slightly bored but more carefree after being fired. Great cityscape shots -- any ideas on the background artist? The VHS packaging -- where the main focus seems to be Momoko's cute pet lizard. |
