The new key visual looks nice, expecting very strong production values for the film and I hope a good story as well.

I'm really hoping for the story to be great this time.
I think Kotonoha no Niwa was beautiful but story-wise it wasn't as good as his previous works.

Oh yes. So the writer and director of The Garden Of Words and that other okay movie 5 Centimeters Per Second. Both those movies are harshly reaalistic... I wonder how this new idea will go, will it be any good? I bet so i mean come on, ITS SHINKAI.

And come on as usuall its visually appealing. Watching Very Happy

Its a real damn shame that Steven Foster retired from directing dubs considering over the last decade its become a tradition for him to direct the dubs for all of Makoto Shinkai's work. This will likely be the first Makoto Shinkai film to not receive his casting or direction. Its hard to see Chris Ayres or Kyle Jones doing justice to the material in the same fashion like Foster did granted they're competent directors but their work can be a bit to inconsistent at times for me. It varies depending which title they're working on. Anyways this will likely be a another solid film from Makoto Shinkai.

August release confirmed.

Anyway, as his biggest fan, I'm sure this will be an amazing movie.

Makoto Shinkai always delivers on the production values. Surprised I just get skeptical on the endings.

Gonna get hate for this, but I personally think 5cm/s isn't as great as everyone says. All because it's final acts completely ruins it for me. It's way too rushed and the ending was so abrupt, the first time I watched it I remember thinking "That's it?" in terms of the ending.

However, the manga is fantastic. It has a much longer and flushed out third act that has an incredibly more impactful and satisfying more than the anime did.

Art is great but he should let somebody else handles the story. I want a decent story please or else the art will go to waste with another forgettable story.

You're like the 4th person in this thread to say that, so I don't think you need to worry about getting hate..

A Shinkai movie to surpass all others?

I can't wait! 5cm and Garden of Words are two of the most beautiful anime I've seen. Can't say I agree with people who think they look the same and have the same story. Similar themes perhaps, but I don't find it difficult to separate the two both in terms of story and visuals.

I think it just comes down to that Shinkai is an auteur, and much like Ikuhara not everyone is into his style.
(Here it comes)
