What Nintendo really wanted to say but was too polite to do so:
"Holy CRAP you people are gullible!"
I do find it hilarious when people got mad about how the rumor was false despite it being bogus is a GOOD thing

Exactly why when I linked the previous article on my blog, I said "Well, if true, that’s unfortunate." Because you never know what's true and what's not in cases like this. Glad to see the Wii U isn't dead yet.

Well I didn't believe that Nintendo would stop making the Wii U for a second unless Nintendo said it themselves in an official announcement which goes to show don't believe everything you see on the Internet.

The sad part is there people STILL trying to cherry pick or play semantics with that statement to make it seem like Nintendo is lying. Which makes me believe that people need to expand their list of hobbies.

I don't think people here are saying that Nintendo is lying. Nintendo's statement is just carefully worded so it does not deny Nikkei's report outright.
Nikkei: Nintendo will end Wii U production in 2016
Nintendo: We plan to continue Wii U production in the next fiscal year or later
The next fiscal year begins on April 1, 2016.

As Egan Loo said, they didn't confirm or deny anything. They just made a vague response.
If they planned to continue Wii U production in 2017, they wouldn't have stated "continue in the next fiscal year" and "or later".

So your retort is...doing the exact thing I just described with no degree of self-awareness.You are not helping your case.

You had said that people "are trying to cherry pick or play semantics with that statement to make it seem like Nintendo is lying."
No one here has said or implied that Nintendo is lying. We are pointing out that Nintendo's statement does not contradict Nikkei's report.

Just a reminder that you have been posting about this literally all day with an increasingly hysterical tone as you try to convince yourself it isn't true. And hey, it may not be. I just find it interesting how you've managed to re-contextualize this into you as the lone voice of reason against a tide of people desperate for this to be true even though by your own admission that makes no real sense since this is clearly a bad thing. But yeah, everyone's an idiot but you. Okay.

No, you're just heavily implying it instead of saying it outright. Rephrase it all you want, you're still trying to keep a dead rumor that has had its funeral alive. And again, I find it funny that you do exactly what I said and get irritated about me saying the rumor is false, when in fact that's a GOOD THING it's false. It means the Wii U is still in production. It is bizarre when people try to keep a negative rumor alive.

Please specify what part of Nintendo's statement contradicts Nikkei's report.

Watching you wrestle with the notion that other people don't just let what they want to be true dictate whether they disregard this rumor continues to be utterly telling. I mean, do you really not get this? Yeah, none of us want the Wii U to be discontinued either. But some of us live in a place called reality. And in reality, Nintendo's comment doesn't actually give us any reason to consider this rumor "dead".

This is why I wait to hear from official sources as a confirmation rather than assume what is shown is real. When I see/hear something about a certain product, I wait until the target company has their say on the situation in this case "Nintendo".
Just goes without saying don't assume everything you see/hear on the internet is true.

Knew that was fake since the beginning, is not the first time that Nikkei did fake reports about Nintendo and Nintendo already stated a couple of times that they will keep supporting the WiiU owners even after the "NX" release.
ANN should be more careful before posting things from sources that aren't official or even reliable.
