Anybody know the song used at the beginning of the commercial?

I believe it's "The Ballad of Mack the Knife" from Kurt Weill's "Threepenny Opera", as sung by his wife Lotte Lenya. (Or since it's sung in the original German, I guess I should say it's "Die Moritat von Mackie Messer" from "Die Dreigroschenoper".) You can find it on YouTube if you're interested in hearing the full version. |

Japanese commercials sure are long. (This would've fit into the Super Bowl if dubbed or subtitled...six or seven years ago, when everything was that surreal and artsy. Then Americans would wonder what miso isand how Marukome became big enough to buy a 150-second Super Bowl ad spot.)

That was quite an intriguing ad. It's as if I'm journeying through a wonderland of cute and mysterious.

The running time of a TV commercial in Japan is usually 15 seconds or 30 seconds. As Dentsū has said, that 150-second 'Kawaii Misoshiru' commercial in question is a 'web commercial'. If a TV station broadcasts Marukome's 'Kawaii Misoshiru' commercial, probably they will use the 15-second version or 30-second version. In fact, Marukome has also made the 15-second version and 30-second version of the 'Kawaii Misoshiru' commercial. |
