I'm ecstatic that Dennou Coil is finally here in the States and that it's even being dubbed. Smile I look forward to its adventure of the virtual realm.

So yeah, you're 100% right. When a new , subpar and generic show gets 15,000 users to score it on MAL just from the first 5 episodes, I guess Dennou Coil really is unknown. I'm sure a lot of is that is because it's never been legally viewable...but also it's age since so many anime fans are rather "new" (5 years or less). I'm already finding people that watched Unlimited Blade Works but had never heard of Fate/Zero. Time is going by fast and anime is being overlooked/forgotten so quickly Sad
It did come out at a time when we still hadn't fully migrated to watching shows as they came out, and since it never got picked up(until now of course). For most people, it was still TV and DVD.

I suppose the biggest problem with simulcast is that now you can watch 100% of what comes out, and it is harder to filter out what not to watch. I'm surprised that there are people who don't know about Fate/Zero, since it was pretty big at the time, and recent as you said.

Wow...what a past couple months it's been for anime licensing. First, we get LoGH and now we get Dennou Coil. I thought I'd never see this show on home video (in English). Now, if only someone could get around to Tatami Galaxy.

@Kougeru, personally, with MAL ratings, YMMV. If you look at MAL's top 20 highest rated anime, you'll notice that Gintama shows up 5 times, and ERASED, after only 7 eps, is already 6th in the list. MAL ratings have a tendency to be popularity contests.

Bout time. There's a handful of shows from that era that are head scratchers when you look at what type of shows get licensed and how they sit untouched. I'm still not sure what's going on with Real Drive. Sci-fi action from the creator of GitS and Production IG (I think it was IG... either them or Madhouse did RD) and it sits untouched for going on a decade now.

With Dennou Coil getting licensed now, I have some hope that somebody'll pick up Real Drive. Maybe if this release does well, Maiden Japan would consider picking up Real Drive.

Hey, nice to see someone in the US license this. While it's been available over here for awhile, thanks to Siren, I do wonder if I should hold off and see if maybe Siren will get their hands on the dubbed version...

Unsure if that is really likely.

There's precedent for that. Madman are re-releasing Love Live with the new dub so Siren might do the same.

Ah, that I didn't know. But, I still question whether or not Siren would do that.

Guess it may depend on how well DC did for them?

Whoa, this is unexpected, to say the leaset. I've wanted to see it for years, so I'm looking forward to its release. I wonder why they used their Maiden Japan imprint though instead of just Sentai?

Does the show have a female main character? That is the usual criteria for it to be listed by Maiden Japan.

Two, and a number of female supporting characters as well. There are really only two or three boys in significant roles compared to half-a-dozen females.

Wait, is that really a criteria? Is the main character in the Patlabor stuff a female? I haven't seen any of it yet, but that wasn't the impression I got. And definitely not for Honneamise either.

But yeah, this show's main characters are all young girls. It actually has a similar vibe to another Maiden Japan title, Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, now that I think about it.

To the extent that anyone can be called the "main character" for Patlabor, I'd say Noa probably is, yes. I have no idea if that's an actual criteria for the Maiden Japan label though.

Maiden Japan/Switchblade and Sentai aren't two sister labels. They're two legally separate companies who would have to acquire titles separately. Since the two aren't legally connected, other than both using Seraphim Digital for production and Section 23 for distribution, there is no way for them to switch titles back and forth.

This wasn't a case of the title being acquired and then deciding to put it on the Maiden Japan label. It was a case of Maiden Japan acquiring the title itself.

This is an example of why streaming broadcast dubs could've been more innovative at the time. However, many fans waited a lot longer for "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" to get an official release and it's supposed be released by Sentai sometime this year. However, this title could sell well considering how long some people have waited for a legal dub release.

That doesn't actually disqualify any of the other speculation though. Maiden Japan is perfectly capable of only seeking out select titles, and even if they're not connected I don't think they're likely to fight over titles.
