Not sure how I feel about the animation...but damn this is the best news I've heard all month.

If the future of anime is everything looking like cutscenes from a PS2 game, I think I'll be spending a lot less money.

Im more courious, how they will handle the mature content here. The Black Swordsman Arc is really hardcore sometimes with Gore and Nudity.

If they can't do it with traditional animation they shouldn't do it at all.

Seconded. His music is a rather integral part of Berserk in my mind since his work appears in the series, movies, and games. Then again, the trailer indicates we'll be seeing plenty of CGI even though the movies were all criticized for some pretty bad CGI, so I wouldn't put it past the production committee to decide not to use one of the actual highlights of the movies.

If you're going to make a mediocre-looking cgi anime, why use it when you're adapting a classic like Berserk of all things? I mean I can only see it being tolerable to most people, and distracting at worst. I can easily imagine it always reminding me that I'm watching a thing and make immersion more difficult.

I am not a fan of this franchise, but I feel sorry for those who are because the "animation" in that trailer looks shitty.

I keep saying this, but don't get so excited for the Rewrite anime. Studio 8 Bit is awful and has a very bad track record of making anything good and/or faithful.
Not sure why people don't like the CGI. It doesn't look bad..just different.

Okay, the CGI in the trailer are not the greatest but I prefer these visuals to the low budget-cel-animation of the 90s Berserk series.

No sign of Puck so far. Crossing fingers that continues.

Quote: | The 1997 Berserk television anime series will get a newly priced Blu-ray Disc release with the 2012 HD remaster. The new boxset is slated for an April 20 release, and will cost 18,000 yen (about US$148). |
If it comes with subs I'd be willing to import it.

I'll second that.
ZaYDgH123 wrote: | @partially the movies weren't full CG, they were a mixture between 2D and 3D. |
More like a mixture of fecal matter and 3D. I'm not totally against CG, I still managed to enjoy Knights of Sidonia in spite of all the distracting jerky character movements (I thought it wasn't quite as bad in S2) and I could watch Appleseed Alpha even though it looked like I was viewing FinalFantasy. But the Berserk movies were kinda of ugly, clunky and they cut out enough elements of the story to really repel me unlike the other two I mentioned. I'm sure we'll see more 3D anime in the future and it will get better, but I wish they wouldn't "practice" with a classic. What I saw in that trailer wasn't too encouraging though.

Yeah, they have to include Puck, especially if they're gonna animate the Conviction Arc, it's not an option. A load of scenes and interactions are lost without his presence.

It doesn't matter if its CG or hand-drawn.
Both can look good if used properly, but I personally think that they should be separated in Berserk, you either make it full hand-drawn(with some CG backgrounds or monsters) or full CG.
the worst thing about the trailer is how the mood is gone with that terrible CG with low framerate.
Bubuki and Ajin are full CG shows from this season and I love them, they are not visually jarring like this garbage of a trailer.
if they want to make it full hand-drawn then they should do it like OPM, Kyousogiga or Space Dandy.
and if they want to make it CG they should make it like the cutscenes in Bloodborne (sorry I asked for too much)
Berserk deserves better treatment but we got what we've got.
maybe the script will be decent!
but still that CG is just unbearable
