Is that all they're going to do for the Slayers 25th anniversary? That series deserves a lot more that just this!

Currently, there have been no other announcements regarding Slayers, and if this is all we get, color me disappointed. Slayers is irrevocably one of the most important media franchises in anime history, and it'd be a shame if all it got for its anniversary was a dinky game crossover. I mean, heck, I'd take a deluxe Figma or Figuarts of Lina, at the very least, if we don't get a new anime!

They're releasing the movies/OVAs on Blu-ray in Japan, but not the TV series (Seasons 4-5 are already on BD in the US through FUNimation's upscale). I would love to at least see a new movie or something. I know the series isn't as remembered as Dragon Ball Z or Sailor Moon, but it's still a huge part of anime, and one of my earliest shows.

No new ova/tv series. The ovas/movies have been released on blu-ray but not the tv series. They've done the following for year twenty-five:
-Two special Slayers exhibitions and cafes, one in summer and one in fall.
-Volks Charagumin model kits of Lina and Amelia in their Otome no Inori outfits.
-The movies/ovas on blu-ray.
-A special twenty-fifth anniversary book released early in the year. It's not very big, basically the size and length of a light novel.
-The GranBlue Fantasy collab.
I'm hoping they announce something bigger as well. You know novels 9-15 still need to be animated...

Well does anyone know how well Revolution and Evolution-R did? Chances are that will hold the answer as to whether this series gets continued. 3k BD/DVD sales is not so good, but I'm guessing this is more of a merchandise series.

I've been wanting to see a more modern design of Naga. Those Slayers anime from 2008 did a great job of keeping to the older designs, but certain parts of Naga need updating.

It did about 3.5 k, although one thing to note is that Evolution-R actually had higher sales than Revolution, interestingly enough.
As for merchandise, there wasn't much, but this was right before the big merchandise boom where every title that sold even an average amount got a fairly large amount of merchandise. There's more Slayers merchandise available now then there was in 2008, and from what I've seen it sells pretty well (Volks has to restock it very frequently).
I suspect that animation the latter half of the novels might garner higher blu-ray sales than Revo/Evo-R did (although I enjoyed those seasons a lot, there's no denying that a lot of people wanted to see the later novels). The biggest concern I've seen regarding those novels is that Amelia and Zelgadis aren't in them, and they're very popular characters to they might not be willing to take that risk. However, it would actually be pretty easy to restructure the story so they could be included. You wouldn't have to change much at all.

The main thing they would need to change would be the very end if they switched Luke and Millina for Zel and Amelia I don't think a lot of fans would be pleased if Zel and Amelia died like those two did.
I'd also love to see an animated version of the Knight of Aqualord manga, since the only main cast member missing from it is Zelgadiss, and adding him wouldn't be hard at all.
I would dearly love to see more Slayers. I actually met my husband through the fandom.

Oh no, I didn't mean for them to leave Luke and Millina out! I mean they could have them there in addition. With Luke and Millina there are are a lot of times they aren't there because they don't travel with Lina and Gourry the same way Zel and Amelia did in 5-8, so they could probably use some of the storylines where they aren't there as ones to give Zel and Amelia more focus. They could even have Zel and Amelia flit in and out of the storyline instead of having them travel with them consistently. That might be a better idea.
As for changes in that case we'd just need to make sure Amelia is somewhere totally elsewhere when Millina is poisoned, because it's noted that if they had a healer focused sorceress there, she could have been saved.
KotA would be a good thing to adapt, and yeah adding Zel in would be easy. I wouldn't mind seeing a movie version of Hourglass of Falces either, as long as they uh--- did not use the art style from the manga.

Yup, and that would be the big one. However, there could be some good character development there as well. If Amelia wasn't there to save Millina, that would evoke the time when her mother died, and that would be a lovely thing to explore with her. Even though I dearly want to see more of Gourry's past.

Ugh. Just ... *shudders* Agreed. SO AGREED. It's such a good story if you can just get past the art.

I was going to say that these redesigns would led to a new anime being produced but I then realized the show itself would end up getting remade/rebooted/continued in a few years anyway because the franchise itself is worth money so, yeah.
This will make it happen faster?
It amazes me how these producers need to be reminded about how popular certain franchises are. It kills my image of people scouring merchandising sales figures and comparing that against what can be licensed on the cheap. They're not calculating money grubbers but fools that hope to get lucky?
That does explain what Kyoto Animation has been doing since K-On. On the other hand, the all consuming big D on this side of the Pacific has been doing little but this.

Agreed! I would love to see more Slayers anime. Namely, I would like to see one considered canon where Gourry marries Lina and Amelia marries Zelgadiss.

Even with my glasses off I can see boobs. If it wasn't for the blond person on the far right I would have never realized I was looking at Slayers.
Man 25 years. Y'know I've only seen one Slayers movie and that was the golem battle between the two artist who were using Naga and Lina as there models.

While i'm happy to see the memory is alive, I'd still like to see new series announced. Though i know diehard Slayers fans that didn't watch the recent season. They certainly aren't helping.
