I empathize with the 10% of the last poll. Like witnessing a train wreak, I don't want to watch as I am afraid and fairly certain the result will be a disaster but I am tempted to peak to see how it goes down. I guess GDT was tops because people expect he at least will try to be respectful to the original. Not like WB, looking to change Misa's name or introducing an entirely unknown character.

What about Tenchi's love-triangle-tragedy roots? (Which also became one of the story arcs on Ayakashi Samurai Horror Tales.)
Or does that not count as "legend"? Or how Minki Momo just happened to have a dog, a bird and a monkey as sidekicks? Sailor Moon, aka the future Neo-Queen Serenity, is supposed to be Princess Kaguya, but they don't broadcast it in the title, thus spoiling the entire climactic revelation of the series, like Queen Millenia did. |

I thought Monkey King was from a novel, jouney to the west. One of 4 famous Chinese classical novel. The Three Kingdom is also one of those books that has tons of anime based on it.

Wu Cheng'en, a 16th century novelist, is said to written the novel that the Monkey King is the star of. In 1942 Arthur Waley did an abridged version called Monkey or Monkey: A Folk-Tale of China. In the novel, there is a main character named Xuanzang. His real life namesake (602-664) was the monk legendary for his 17-year journey from China to India. Both Xuangzang and Lao-Tzu lived in Luoyang. |

Momo Kyun Sword? Really? I think Arslan Senki, which takes a lot from Shahnameh would've been a better choice. Or, maybe, Tale of Princess Kaguya.

Yes, and that's exactly what the list said - that the Monkey King was originally from Journey to the West and Goku was based on that character. Speaking of the four Chinese classics, there's a new anime scheduled to come out next year called "Galaxy Divine Wind Jinraiger" that the producers have already said is inspired by the novel Water Margin. It'll be the fourth in the "J9 series" - the first three all came out in the 80s and also took inspiration from other works of fiction, from popular legends about the Shinsengumi to Around the World in 80 Days. |

The amount of anime just based off Journey to the West could make up a list of at least 10.

I thought it was funny that Monster got an Encyclopedia link in number 4, but not in the poll list.
Urashima Tarou is another tale that's been the basis of many anime (Love Hina, Urusei Yatsura:Beautiful Dreamer) and referenced to death (Cowboy Bebop among a list too long to detail). In fact, it shows up so often, I'd have put it on the list at number 1 (well, since it's anime rather than tales, I guess I'd put Love Hina there). |

I wonder if you could add 'Ninja Scrolls' to the mix since it refers to the Iga vs Kouga feud. Which is a famous piece of literature that references back to the feuds between the Koga providence and the Iga providence during the Sengoku period.
In numerous anime and manga series the Kouga and Iga clans are always mentioned in some fictional variation of that story. |

Someone's thesis paper should be comparing Paranoia Agent to the Bakeneko myth. I'd probably read it.
