OH MY GOD....
You can't be serious, right?!
I hope the court decision will NOT encourage more nonsense like this case...

In all honesty, I think they should be punished to the full extent the law calls for. It wouldbe a prime example to show why you shouldn't make a threat like this, and what will happen if you do. You shouldn't joke about something as serious as this.
No matter the circumstances, and that's not even saying if they weren't just joking.

I wouldn't think that it was one of those empty online threats. It's not like you'd forget you left some guns in the back of the car you drove in to the place where the tournament is being held...

People be dumb....so dumb. Why would you post that on social media? You know people are gonna see it and the police will be notifed. Idiots.

Yeah, I agree with you. It's like when on To Catch a Predator, the suspect shows up to the house with Trojans. You can't just say "I carry them around with me just in case." That makes you sound like a paranoid psychopath who needs to be locked up.

They aren't in trouble whatsoever for the threats at the moment. They are in trouble for illegal possession of firearms. Though I agree, the prosecutors should seek the maximum punishment.

Naivety and internet un-savviness played a big role in these guys arrests. You post a threat with pictures to back it up then you're going to be taken very seriously. Unlawful possession of firearms is already a bane for them in the case so far. The other stuff doesn't look too promising for them either.

They both need to be punished to the full extent of the law.

While I am for tree speech, this is where I draw the line. When you make a threat on FB and you have weapons (be it shown on the post or not), I say give them the full sentence. I don't know what the max sentence is but I say give them at least 7.5 years.

I'm really glad this is being taken seriously and not just swept under the rug. Sure, maybe they really weren't going to do anything. But the actions of security/police could have very well saved several lives.
I really hope they make an example out of these two so no one else thinks that this would be a good idea -_-

At $150,000 bail, the dangerous duo has little chance of seeing the light of day until their trial.
I just hope that if they're found guilty, the court will sentence them to the fullest extent of the law.

$150,000 bail? Oh boy, these two morons are not going to get out this situation for a long while!
Anyways, looking at this case, they are complete idiots making those gun related comments on their Facebook page and then showing pictures that they are bringing guns into that card game tournament and if they really have no intention of using them at that time, then why bring that much guns with them in the first place? It would naturally give many people the wrong impression after all.
Overall, these two morons should be made an example of because if you dare make a dumb death threat on the internet and then show that you have the means of carrying it out by showing pictures of what weapons you have in your possession, of course people should take it seriously and have you arrested. Those cops that arrested them did the right thing.

It seems the punishment is to be strapped with court costs and time in jail. (Unless when they are exonerated they will be reimbursed in some way).
By not charging them for the threats, they are guaranteed to be found not guilty or have the decision reversed on appeal.
I found the following charges:
Possession of AR-15 without permit.
Possession of large capacity feeding device without permit.
Possession of Shotgun without permit.
Possession of ammunition without permit.
All of which are laws of Massachusetts, not of Iowa where they were purchased (permits are for purchase) and the perpetrators place of residence. And there is a Federal law that prevents exactly these types of prosecutions. I am sure the judge knows this but figures that the best way to punish them is to restrict their freedom rather than to just throw the case out.
I am not saying anything about the foolishness of what they did here, just stating the nature of the laws of the case. It would have been nice if they had something to charge them with in reference to the inet posts. Which also indicates the need to develop laws which pertain to online harassment, threats and bullying.

Not sure where you're getting your info, since I just read Massachusetts' state laws regarding non-resident possession of guns, and it makes it pretty clear that if you have a gun in your possession, unless you qualify for some pretty strict exemptions, you have to have a temporary non-resident permit.
