Nintendo has really put in the work in that period of time and is the only first party company that still seems to remember that games are first and foremost supposed to be fun. They've made some missteps but other emphasis like not having everything in their catalogue being premium priced and focusing on core game play and connecting directly with the audience over Triple A design and gimmicky advertising campaigns have really served to earn them my respect ahead of the competition. I just like the way they are doing things this Gen compared to the IMO more ego driven campaigns of Sony and Microsoft.

Though gimmicky advertising campaigns don't hurt, considering how strange Nintendo properties often are.

While the Wii U had a slow start in sales due to how poorly Nintendo marketed it, at least it managed to become profitable in the end with a decent first party game library and their new first-party title, Splatoon.
