Does she come into your house saying she's free & easy, then starts demanding you pay her to stop talking while you try to sleep & uses your wifi without permission?

How many modern 17-year-olds would want to live in 1915?

We NEED an anime Mac vs. PC parody.
(Until the MS people cry that "The Apple people are being mean and unfairly picking on us! ")
What, a Windows mascot being a bit intellectually dim and not running on all cylinders? Now that's totally unfair! |

So because we don't get windows 09 and Cirno as the mascot, we get a character that looks Cirno inspired and who has a backstory that could be taken that she is actually a big Chuunibyou.

Yes, and she also rifles through your mail and watches everything you do and reports back to her manager all the info about you that she can. Might as well be Spymistress Tōko, with night-vision goggles and an audio recording antenna. (sigh... I'll just be over in the corner being all bitter and stuff) |

Here's hoping that there will be some way for foreigners to see Touko Madobe appear on their laptops; I have a feeling that some are probably going to need her to offset harrowing feeling of the fact that Windows 10 is heading straight to our laptops, with no way to stop its advance.

Which probably means it's time to seriously think about joining the free world. Linux Mint comes highly recommended for newbies or you could go full Gentoo - I'd just avoid Ubuntu since Canonical's decided to send your local file searches to Amazon since everybody knows you should always search for files and do your shopping with the exact same textbox. |

Spyware? Is that why they're giving Windows 10 out for free?
Well, at least the Start menu is back. I don't know what idiot thought it was unpopular. |

I had a the Nana theme on my laptop before so I wouldn't worry (I subsequently decided it was annoying and got rid of it though). I don't think you read your own link though. Either that or it went over your head. Windows 10 isn't heading straight to your laptop without your expressed consent. |

Heh, we were waiting for her name since the contest:
http://nichegamer.com/2015/05/japan-has-anthropomorphized-windows-10-into-its-own-os-tan/ And after all that, it sounds so simple.
Ya don't have to update to Win10 if ya don't want to. On the one hand, you'd have to go to Win10 Pro level or Enterprise in order to control Windows Updates (and even then, ya can only delay it up to 8 months). On the other hand, people are PEBKACs that need to be told to update. Then again, sometimes updates aren't for the better. Microsoft says they'd test out the updates first on the thousands equivalent of the Insider Program before unleashing it to the masses and lastly to the Pros and Enterprise businesses. Guess we'll see how well that'll work.
Only the Win10 upgrade is free, and only on its first year of release (meaning up to July 2016). Full install from scratch, ya still have to pay. And unfortunately, the major companies all do privacy violations now, even the latest OSX and Linux flavors, sigh: http://www.techadvisor.co.uk/opinion/security/fightback-against-apple-on-privacy-is-just-beginning/

I remember reading that for the enterprise edition there are "milestone" releases that will only receive security (and no feature) updates and are supported for 3-5 years.
Anyone running Windows 10 can opt into developer mode to get pre-release updates, even if they weren't on the insider programme (like Chrome's dev channel). |
